Was getting ready to head to bed and saw that Casino was about to start and ended up staying up to watch the whole thing.

Great movie but isn’t it really basically Goodfellas set in Los Vegas?

It’s based on real events. Dramatized of course, but still somewhat accurate as such movies go.

Great movie with a lot of great actors. I've watched it several times.

Day-to-day mob life movies fascinate many people as its a culture that most people don't live or, know about. Much of it has been romanticized, resulting in mobsters themselves embracing what Hollywood has created.

So true, and not only does such romanticized views encourage borderline personalities to "get in the game", they can and do create sympathy among jurors since those involved are also "humanized." After all, who'd want to put Tony Soprano in prison for life, knowing how much it would hurt Carmela and the kids?

You say that like it's a bad thing. Excellent movie. Just plumbs the depths of "can it get worse?" "Why yes, yes it can!" Actually, Boogie Nights has a similar vibe in that regard.
