FWIW I used an XS rail on my RGSR. It has a peep built into the back of it and provides standard picatinny slots for standard scope mounting. I did find that the peep didn't work as well with the full length rail because it cluttered up the sight picture so I cut the XS rail off at the end of the reciever. I have mounts and zeroed both a leupold fxii 2.5x (lightweight) and a vortex 2.5-10 x 32 mil-mil for longer distance. All up with sling and scopes and mag, it weighs either 7.5 or 8.5 lbs.

In researching components for a scout build, I found Brockmans peep sights. I would use an over receiver mounted variable scope and QD rings with it.
