What are your thoughts about the Rattler as a short suppressed.300?

I really like mine. I have the Canebrake version. I had 2 small issues with mine. The first was that it would not cycle subs with their inert trainer installed. Once I put on any of my suppressors, it functioned fine.

The second issue was that the gas block was loose. Sig replaced the block, but tried telling me it wasn't designed to function without a real suppressor. I didn't bother telling the sig rep about their own commercials touting the inclusion of the trainer so that the end user could shoot subs from day 1, while waiting on a can. This was during the 15 month plus wait periods. So it was a bigger deal than it would be now.

It is a soft, and fairly accurate gun with both subs and supers. It is not as accurate as the 9 inch version that I also have, but it handles so sweet. Fits in fairly normal sized backpacks, so it has been easy for my wife and I to take it when heading out into the mountains, or in town.

I have used it with a Nomad, a Wolfman, and a Sandman. Worked really well with each of them. I have never noticed gas to my face with any of them. No one that has shot it, has complained either. The gun currently is setup with the Nomad as we liked the tone of that the best with the loads we most often shoot.

I hope that helps, but if you have any other questions, definitely let me know.

I wonder if anyone has checked them for barrel shifting like the bigger ones.

I got to shoot one last year at a suppressor industry range day. Silly quiet, very pleasant shooter. No gas to the face. I was impressed. Sig being Sig, they told me the exact variant I was shooting was already discontinued in favor of (looking at the site, I guess the LT) and I can’t remember what it was except .300BO.

I carry mine with me daily in a backpack. I replaced the original clunky handguard with 2 from Midwest Industries depending on my mood. The brace has been replaced with a Gearhead metal brace.

Hey Warpig602, both of those handguards look really nice.

2 questions for you:

What optic mount is that?

How long is the suppressor handguard? I am guessing about 8 inches?

Thanks

The original Rattler has a 5.5 inch barrel while the Rattler LT has 6.75 and 7.75 inch barrels. The 5.5 inch barrel has a shortened OP rod so it cannot accept longer MCX barrels.

The longer OP rod is expensive. The SIG site has an MCX small parts shopper if you want to look at parts prices.

My Rattler LT with Sandman K suppressor has pretty bad gas blowback shooting supersonic rounds. My eyes tear up after three or four rounds shooting indoors. This is in the proper "-" setting for supersonic ammo. I'll try it with subsonic on my next trip. I'm beginning to suspect it was designed to only shoot supersonic unsuppressed and subsonic suppressed.

IMO, the Rattler (LT) isn't worth it unless you want the very niche feature such as foldable stock and piston-driven AR-style rifle.

You could also just buy an upper and attach it to your own AR lower. I've done this with 2, but haven't had them at the range yet. And it's much cheaper than going with a complete SIG.

It is a LEAP mount from Scalarworks and that handguard is 10.5 from the front to the cross pin.

I gues smine is technically not a Rattler, its and MCX Virtus Tacops

I have a 5.5 and just got an LT 6.75 so I don't need the 5.5 anymore...
