I have a 10/22 charger setup that I use with a suppressor.

I put one of these cheap Holosuns on it and it was dead on at the range, sighted in really easily. But I am missing shots in the field, I think due to parallax sensitivity.

I know the Trijicon MRO is known to have this issue, which leads me to wonder, are there certain tube or enclosed RDS designs that have less parallax sensitivity?

An interesting question. I checked four sights just now at a distance of about 14 yards. Aimpoints ACRO P-2, CompML3, and CompM5, plus an AT3 ARO. All are enclosed except for the AT3 that I have on precision rifles to help me find targets before switching to magnification.

At the distance tested, the maximum apparent reticle movement due to parallax shift was a bit over an inch from the center position; i.e., looking through one edge of the field of view would appear to move the reticle a bit over an inch in one direction, and using the other edge of the view would move it in the other direction.

The least shift seemed to be with the AT3, and the most with the CompM5, with the ACRO and CompML3 about the same in the middle. I must stress, though, that all were very close and I didn’t have a way of precisely measuring the apparent shift.

And as you may know, the apparent shift is greater at closer distances; a couple of inches at 70 yards is pretty hard to see—and assuming that’s how much it is. But to help eliminate any zeroing issues with a CompML3 or the CompM2 sights that my agency has, I have a device that screws into the front and has a small centered hole in the middle to position the reticle in to eliminate any parallax shifts.

In one training course I developed it’s necessary to hit a 12-ounce beverage can at a distance of 25 yards from an improvised rest. I always mark a spot on the can to know where I hit in reference to it and even firing as quickly as I can get a good sight picture with the CompML3 I always hit fairly close to the mark.

What distance were you shooting at and how much were the misses? The best thing would be for you to just check the parallax shift of your sight yourself. Position the gun/sight on a rest aimed at some distant object and then move your head so that the reticle appears to move from one edge of the field of view to the other and watch how the reticle appears to move on the target.

Yes, there is a non-scientific study someone did on about 15 red dots that I’ll try and find. It had all sorts of measurements.

The Eotech was essentially the “best”. But I’ll try to find the article with all the numbers.

Found the comparison

Awesome information and insight, as usual.

The gun can put 15 shots all in a quarter sized hole at 15 yards, which is the max for my local indoor range. I reckon I'm aiming at a tennis ball sized target at maybe 20 yards and missing it, Ill do some expiriments as you suggest.

I was thinking the holosun might have more error or shift because the emitter is relatively close to the reflector, or maybe I just suck.

ETA Now I want an EOTech for a fricking .22, thanks guys.
