Shotgun follower choice.
Good afternoon,
Hopefully this is okay to ask this question here.
I am rebuilding an 870 and want to upgrade the follower. I see that Vang Comp has one. Does anyone have a recommendation?

Thanks in advance.

Someone makes a white derilin (slick plasticJ one that I eyeballed a while back but forgot about.

Is there a big difference between the bright aluminum ones and stainless?

I am a Rem 870 armorer and responsible for a large number of Rem 870P shotguns.

The Wilson Combat plastic follower can be problematic.
If you have a magazine extension, the plastic follower will abrade itself on the joint between the magazine and magazine extension and eventually cause a fail to feed.

The Vang Comp follower works and will not cause problems like a plastic follower.

The factory plastic follower is "better" than the Wilson follower.

If you're rebuilding/refurbishing, replace the magazine spring - factory springs work fine.

So due to this thread I ordered a Phase 5 follower https://www.brownells.com/shot...wers-prod126757.aspx

For my home defense gun...just because

Went with the phase 5 due to the large hole in the middle of the follower.

Am I correct in assuming you witnessed this with the factory mag extension? I have not seen this issue with Wilson followers in Wilson extensions.

I use Type 2 followers from S&J in my 870s.

I had problems in the past with a plastic Choate follower getting abraded by the junction between a mag tube and an extension, but so far, no such issues with the S&J followers. S&J uses Delrin, which is a Teflon-impregnated robust plastic that is slipperier and tougher than the cheaper nylon used by companies like Wilson and Choate.

No. I've seen issues with the WC follower in factory, WC and VC mag extensions.
