Sigless in Indiana

| I've got a 500 that is more than 20 years old and it just does what it is supposed to do.
I don't shoot it much since I picked up an auto, but my Dad bought it for me so it comes out to bird hunt every once in a while. |

| I’ve switched to the 590a1 (14” bead sight and a 20” ghost ring sight) from my 870’s. I find (my opinion) the Mossberg to to be of better quality and have more robust parts. The only reason to choose an 870 that I can see is if one wants a pistol grip stock. At that point, the trigger guard location of the 870 safety works better with a pistol grip. If the Mossberg you get has a bead front sight get this Tritium bead |

| I too am an 870 enthusiast. But the Mossberg is also a time proven gun. Even the cheapie Maverick is a good gun. And the safety position on the receiver top is a great idea. Buy the Mossberg.

| Mossbergs are dandy. Police trade ins aren't actually used that much. Go for it.

| I started many years back with 870 variants. My latest is a 590 Shockwave... you will be ok! |

| use what work for you, if the 500 is less challenging for a lefty, then get that 500 870's are great shotguns, and so are 500's, (says the guy that has a Winchester defender and High Standard Riot,,)

Let's be careful out there
| I have both. I am left handed, too. I like the 870 police action better, but the Mossberg tang safety is easier to operated than the remngton, at least for a lefty. a Having said that, I don't much care which one i am using at any given moment. |

| I also have both and for my purposes it dosent matter which one I use. I really honestly have no preference.
Both mine are the mariners and they go out on my snow machine or skiff/raft I just grab whichever one happens to be on the outside of the stack of guns by the door when I head out.
I also have a weatherby pa-o8 which was a sweet score for 289.00, I actually really like it. |

Just thought I'd mention; I have a left handed safety on my 870. I bought it used many years ago so I don't know who made it. I have got used to it, so I never changed it out. Someone out there makes them, I guess. |

| I have a 590 and much prefer it to the 870, primarily because it has a tang safety, ghost ring sight, and it shoots very well.

| I also went from years of using the 870 to a mossberg 590. I prefer tang safety and ease of loading the magazine w/o pushing up on the lifter.

| Strongly prefer the 590. But I shoot lefty. The bolt release is in a vastly superior position regardless. I also like that there's no elevator to move out of the way to load.
