I have one on order, for what that's worth. Saying "early 2022", again for what that's worth.

My FIL has one in 9mm. He let me shoot it and it ran like a top. He’s got red anodized parts on his and it’s super cool.

That is downright awesome...and so crazy expensive I can never dream of owning one Frown. Still, I'm a big fan of PCCs, and not a fan of straight blowback, so seeing more development come to the market is a great thing.

Ya, after owning a MP5 with a bucket of rounds on it not a fan of the straight blowback as well. As sweet as the MP5 is to shoot it's certainly lacking in the ability to hang stuff on it, light/switch, optics.... and the trigger. Ergos of a AR with the MP5 delayed roller back... If it shoots anywhere near as well as my MP5, the MP5 will be on the chopping block in short order. From what I read it'll be an easy barrel cut down for a SBR, maybe have to change the HK locking piece. A supressed 8" barrel Big Grin

Lowsmith, hopefully you get yours in "early" 2022! Do you have other PCC's you'll be comparing it to?

Ihavebine of the CMMG guns and it's not not roller delayed, it's radially delayed. Basically it's a blowback gun, but instead of having a flat-faced, one-piece bolt, it has a bolt carrier assembly similar to a regular DI AR. The bolt and barrel have intersecting lugs, but instead of locking on 90-degree surfaces like a DI gun, they are cut at an angle so the force of the recoil causes them to slide apart as the bolt rotates. This slows the opening of the bolt a bit, which allows them to do away with the heavy bolts and buffers typical of straight blowback guns...but it's still not truly a locked system.

Here's a pic of the CMMG bolt and carrier...you can see the engles cut on the back side of the lugs of the bolt, and the fake "gas key" that isn't actually a gas key, and simply serves to orient the BCG in the receiver.

Compare that to a regular AR BCG, with a standard bolt and gas system:

And your typical straight-blowback 9mm AR bolt:

The CMMG system is a good system...it's relatively simple and affordable. It works well, and I've been happy with mine. An additional benefit of the rotating bolt is that it incorporated the same out of battery protection as a regular AR...the bolt has to be rotated to the compressed position for the firing pin to reach the primer. Straight blowback guns with a one piece bolt don't have this, and hammer-follow from short-strokimg can cause doubling or OOB discharges...which was a BIG problem on the straight blowback gun I used to own.

I imagine that the JP gun will be even smoother than the CMMG, and there's no doubt in my kind that it will be high quality. I'm just curious how much of that MSRP is due to the cost of the action, and how much of it is just because it's a JP. I don't doubt that it's worth the money to someone who can afford it....but there's no way I can justify that kind of cash for what would essentially be a range toy...my family drives cars that cost less than that. I'd love to see that roller-delayed action in a gun that is a little more attainable.

They are great rifles, the jp15, gmr13 and gmr15 in 9mm and their 308, they have all been excellent rifles. I have had them for many years and enjoyed them all.

Not really. I was looking to get into the game, had a FM upper on an Angstadt lower. Felt it was "okay" but really wanted to get into the game so I sold that upper and had ordered a JP upper for it and it was almost ready to be shipped and two things happened simultanously (settled a nice case and saw the JP-5) and quickly switched my upper to a deposit on the JP-5.

I'll tell everyone about it when I get it.

I guess I'm not really sure, but I do have a JP-15 that wasn't much more than a DD and less than a Noveske and I'm a lot more happy with the JP. I wasn't able to find anything like the JP-5 on the market without just getting an MP-5 (or clone) and my expereince with my JP-15 and the AR ergos vs. HK ergos for competition sealed the deal for me personally.

Yeah, I agree. The roller delayed action with AR ergos sounds like a fantastic combination. I'm looking forward to hearing your first-hand account of how it shoots!
