I don't see why the Thompson length would have anything to do with it. They were FA and got regulated in '34 anyway so their length was irrelevant.

I don't know why folks keep bringing up the Chopper, either. It points to no barrel length approaching either 18 or 16 or any reason those lengths would be noted.
