Home defense AR. Do you have a suppressor on it?

bcm 9" 300blk with micro30 or
brn-180s 10.5 556 with same suppressor.
in the small config it is quiet enough to curb permanent hearing loss. im ok with never seeing that can again if something as awful as using it in my home occurs.

I once heard someone say something along the lines of “No, because I want my whole neighborhood to hear that something bad is happening and can help me call authorities or come to assist.”

Last summer I was up in the mountains with my 10.5" AR pistol and took a quick shot at a critter without any ears on.
No way in hell I'd EVER think about discharging that thing inside of an enclosed space. The one shot out in the wide open (with a flash can on too) made my whole head ring for the rest of the weekend.
Since then I've decided to use pistols for home defense until I can get suppressors on the AR's.

Not to mention the excess carbon on the fired brass.

But tamper with evidence, that's no crime...

Exactly why I use my Tavor X95. Bought it just for this purpose. Plus having the short length with full size rifle ballistics is a plus.

The can moves from gun to gun, I don’t clean them each time I use them and they are gonna need a warrant to get the safe opened....the weapon used will be handed over to the police when they show up. I was a cop, I know how most of them are not gun people and wouldn’t know either way....but that is all moot now that I have changed back to the 12ga...

Just seems pointless to start your interactions with the cops by lying.

Especially when your family / neighbors report the sound as muffled, or whatever.

Just seems dumb to me, especially for no reason.

If I used an SBR, it would be a good idea, but with a 16" rifle, no. Too much added length, and too much added weight.

Shooting Pro Steel matches, I’ve popped off a few rounds in close confines (no roof but close walls) with ear protection on. It’s just loud.

I’ve shot with a suppressor under the same conditions and I still preferred some ear plugs.
BTW: the above was with a 9mm carbine and subsonic 147gr ammo.
I can imagine 5.56 being horrifically worse.

Yes and no. I couldn’t tell a difference with an 11.5 556. It was effective on a 10.5 300 BO supersonic.

My HD SBR is a 10.3 DD Mk18 upper with SCO Omega.

I figure that it's not only my hearing but also the ability of my two young children and my wife to hear and follow directions during/after the altercation.

Hate on me if you wish, but it's also got a D60 with 64 grain Gold Dots. Screw reloading...

If anyone here has ever inadvertently discharged a rifle in their home - or in an enclosed structure - without hearing protection - then you probably have a suppressor on your home defense rifle.

If I'm capping off rifle rounds inside my house, the least of my worries is potential hearing loss. I think the idea of putting on hearing protection when you have your hands full just getting your rifle into action is silly. You may have a split second to get prepared for a threat. Forget about secondary stuff and concentrate on putting rounds on target and saving your life.
