I found this Savage 12BVSS 22-250 on the local gun boards. The nice gentleman was asking $600 but took $525 and threw in a few boxes of ammo as well as the bipod. The SWFA FIXED 16X scope and Seekins rings were gifted to me.
Long ago I owned a Savage 10FP 20” 308 with this same stock. That gun would shoot 150gr Federal American Eagle into under an inch. I hope this gun is just as capable.
I ordered all the equipment needed to reload for the round today. I’ll post results when I make some loads for this heavy 14lb pig. Love the OD Green.

My very favorite prairie dogging round is 22-250, custom gun. A few years ago I bought a Savage Axis on clearance, same chambering. It shoots fine for what it is, I didn’t experiment a whole lot with reloads.
For dogging I usually load in the mid 22-250 range, above 223, but not max. Just seems easier on the brass & all.
With the Axis I did some trigger spring adjustment, to get it where I wanted it.

Love 22-250 knew a guy with a Ruger heavy bull bbl model [M77 Mk2 Target, IIRC] & it had about as much recoil as a 22lr & the boom of a much larger round.

Hello guys,
I received all the components I needed to load for this rifle and made 25rds to test out today.
Loaded ammo are as follows:
I used factory 55gr Winchester Power Point as a control. It shot extremely well for inexpensive ammo.
53gr VMax w/ 35.5gr 4064
53gr VMax w/ 36gr 4064 (most accurate)
55gr VMax w/ 35.5gr Varget
55gr VMax w/ 36gr Varget
62gr RMR soft point w 34gr Varget (worst accuracy)
OAL 2.350 for all VMax ammo 2.385 for the 62gr.
The gun shoots extremely well. I may replace the stock to be able to ride a rear bag better. I may also replace the scope. It is a fixed 16x and any movement was magnified through the optic. I usually like to shoot 10-12 power at 100.

I totally forgot that a 10FP and 12BVSS fit the same stock, so I swapped them out. I like this B/C Duramaxx stock on the 22-250 much better. The Choate stock is better for the 10FP which has a short 20” 223 barrel.

Try some Hodgdon 380 powder with a 50gr Vmax. Fantastic powder for that round.

Did a little more shooting this morning.
This gun is a beast with 53gr VMax and 36gr 4064.
All 5 shot groups.

Maybe a prairie dog town out west is next to plan for. My very favorite time is mid June, highest target numbers of the year.
