I came into these two 219 Improved Zipper rifles built by A.R. Hartung of Pomeroy, Ohio. One rifle has a Unertl 20x scope, the other one has a Weaver K10 60-B scope. I know the optics and what they're worth. What I don't know is what are the rifles worth, and who out there collects such guns. There are a few companies out there that still make 219 zipper ammo, although I don't have any real interest in using these guns. The Rifle with the Unertl has been buffed so hard the SN is partially gone. The names on the rifle barrels look like the guns were made for father & son or maybe two brothers as they have the same last names. Thanks for any information.

Two wonderful old rifles. I'm a sucker for nostalgia and things like that. usually leads me to over paying and being stuck with things. lol (no I don't want to buy them)

I've seen the name Hartung before, but couldn't remember anything else.

Dig how the windage & elevation adjustments move the entire scope.

Unertl, Lyman, Fecker, Davis, Winchester and a few I may be forgetting,
as accurate if not more so than modern scopes as far as tracking,

re the rifles,
both are custom 1903 actions?

then honestly, not worth too much more than a well done sporter, ,

I assumed I'd either run across the name Hartung on Gunbroker, or 24 Hour Campfire. (or both). Searched there and his name comes up in one or two threads, so that was probably it.

If converted from an old military bolt, it took some skill to make them work, not only with the re-barreling to this .219 Zipper (I had to look it up; an odd choice to say the least), but feeding a rimmed cartridge. What, if anything, it does to their value, I can't say. The one forced against a buffing wheel so hard that it mostly wiped out the lettering is going to be hurt.
