I have been lazily looking for a direct acog mount at a reasonable price. I am a fan of the crosshair 4x acogs, but I think the 3.5x was made for a 551 contract.

I bought a B&T picatinny rail mount that goes on the top of the receiver, and should be able to get an ACOG to mount directly to it. I think it should be a good all around scope, and a pretty rugged one as well. I am just trying to figure out which one to get.

I finally decided what optic to use on my rifle. After swapping a couple of optics around on other rifles I moved this SIG Romeo & Juliet 4 combo to the 550 and will range test it soon. I think it will work on this rifle and it looks right.

The inherent bummer about an ACOG on the 55X is the height. Not a deal-breaker, but it'll be high. You'll sacrifice the cheek weld you may be used to, unless you get a riser.
Optics on an AR often share the sight line of the iron sights. Most optics attached to a 55X will use a sight line above the iron sights. This message has been edited. Last edited by: KSGM,
