I've had my Ruger No.1B in 30.06 for over 30 years and used it to take a variety of big game from wild pigs to several species of deer in the USA and other countries. Once I took it with me to the Las Pampas area of Argentina and had the unusual experience of watching a frustrated firearms inspector trying in vain to find the "magazine" on it. The young uniformed officer present could contain his laughter. Once cleared, I used the '06 to get a nice red stag and this beautiful fallow deer buck.

A Dutch friend of mine is a big Ruger #1 fan and I was able to obtain for him a special edition version of the Medium Sporter in .270 Winchester. It took about six months for him to get it, but was well worth the trouble. He believes his is the only .270 of the kind in Europe.

When I was a teen, my brother invited me to go to the range/gun store where he worked. That day he brought two guns, a Colt 9mm commander, and a Ruger #1 in no less than 300 WM. It would stack 180gr green box Remington on top of each other. And it kicked, very much. But it was a gorgeous rifle.

I have a No.1V chambered in 25.06. The factory loads I shoot is 100 grain Remington Core-Lokt. Is the most accurate that I've found for this rifle.
It is a good rifle and the only complaint that I have is that the trigger leaves a lot to be desired.

The #3 in .223 is the one rifle I regret most not buying when my dealer was one of four who had buying privileges off Ruger's "Used Gun Bank".
