USASOC has been fielding this thing for a few years now, and Geissele was selling a retail "near clone" version almost from the very start. Gotta be some folks here who have one, or built up a clone?

Geissele got me with their Halloween Count Blemula sale. If USPS didn't lose my package, I should have some better pics to post pretty soon. The 11.5" is the correct DD barrel with a non-pinned gas block and Colt upper, and the other is an FN upper receiver with an FN "lighter" profile 16" "machine gun steel" with double thick chrome lined bore and an FSB I had ADCO shave down to a gas block. When I get my cans out of jail, I'll figure out a muzzle device I'm ok with having semi-permanently installed and have ADCO cut it to 14.5" and then pin and weld.
I decided I didn't need the G$ BCG, but the URGI charging handles are waiting patiently in the garage for this box to arrive. Yes, the A2's look funky, I agree.

I've got one. I'm not sure if there was a question buried in you post? But I like it for three reasons, first it came with a surefire FH so I didn't have to change that to use my socom and second I like the handguard better than my two similar Mk18 and Colt 6933 and third I am a sucker for the color.

Slightly off-topic: anyone have any idea why the BCM improved uppers never really took off? This Geiselle, though certainly an improved upper receiver group, doesn't appear to have any changes made to the receiver itself. I suppose there's not much to be done to the actual receiver, but the BCM one seemed pragmatic to me. The cam pin gouging phenomenon, though not necessarily a problem, always seemed like something that could be addressed.

just a guess, because the changes did really nothing in the scheme of normal operation or longevity. And the top tier players like KAC didn't deem it necessary so there was no pull through to the second tier.

KSGM, if I had to guess, it's what Jon said plus they wanted to be able to use upper receivers they already had in inventory. I've seen some pics in the wild of old, salty looking "it was painted five times over the last twenty years and most of that is gone" receivers wearing all the new URGI parts. I saw a pic the other day of an 11.5" with a teardrop forward assist. A friend of mine who's deep in the cloning community told me it was almost assuredly built up off an early Mk18.

Well, up to 14.5" the gas lengths appear to be the same to me. The 16" Super Duty has "Geissele length," whatever that is. Other than the muzzle device, I'm also seeing mention of a cam pin cutout on the receiver, "Nanoweapon Reliability" coating on the BCG, Geissele Stressproof Bolt with Asymmetric Cam Pin, a different gas block that isn't pinned, matching anodizing on the receiver, and it doesn't come with the Super 42 braided wire buffer spring and buffer that the URGI does.
I have a pair of G2S triggers in the cart right now. This is about to happen.

I think it's two colors because it's meant to look like what is seen in the military. Perhaps, where these components are used professionally, they retrofit existing uppers, so the color mismatch (black/tan) is common.
Smudge, you mentioned an asymmetric cam pin. I did some looking/reading, and it is indeed an "upgraded" piece, which supposedly isn't recommended for use in mil-spec receivers, which implies that the Super Duty uppers are indeed internally different. Again, the whole cam pin "issue" isn't necessarily an issue at all, but I do sympathize with the engineer who would see that galling as something to be "fixed". Am I correct in saying the URGI doesn't use this Super Duty cam pin and receiver?

My understanding is that they were first assembled by the military with standard M4 upper receivers and the new FDE rail, and it just stayed that way. Of course the clones of an issued weapon will emulate it.
