I have a couple SBRs in various calibers, .223, 10mm, .300, that are probably better suited if I ever HAD to use one defensively. So I’m thinking of keeping this thing pretty close to stock.

Thinking A2 stock with factory hand guard. I’ve read the A2 is considerably more comfortable than telescoping stocks.

Is there a go to for an optics mount? At this time I haven’t settled on anything. Maybe an old style Eotech. Optic would likely be the only addition besides a stock and can.

A3 stock for show, A2 stock for go.

Honestly, I don’t like optics on MP5s because the hood on the front sight gets in the way. I haven’t found anything that I really like. Either the red dot is right on the top of the hood, or you need a really high mount to clear the hood. Also, you have to consider your hand hitting the cocking handle if you use a large/long sight like an Eotech 512. The only thing I sort of liked was a Vortex Venom on an MFI low mount. That actually cowitnessed with the iron sights, but it wasn’t practical to use with the diopter rear. In the end, I stayed with the iron sights, which kept the retro look that I like.

I have been happy with the mount that came on the SP5k, topped with a FastFire 3 3 MOA dot. It does not facilitate cowitnessing the irons, but at 25 yards just using the top of the front sight as an aiming point gets me minute-of-liver accuracy.

I have the B&T folder on my SP5K and am plenty happy. Its way more comfortable than the telescoping one on my APC9K.

I'm exactly one range day into this platform but I have already learned a few things. I have a neck like a turkey and have had to add butt pads to increase length of pull or tall sight mounts to fit comfortably on every gun I'm serious about. I love the classic aesthetic of the iron sights and A3 stock but I'm going to have add LOP or raise the sights or most likely both. As is, I am all kind of scrunched up shouldering the AP5.

I haven't decided what stock yet. I did some searching on optic mounts. it looks like you can catch the irons under a 1.42" (depending on what rail you have) and the 1.57" scalarworks red dot mounts. The scalarworks are a different look for sure, but functionally I think it is exactly what I need. I'm still looking for other mount options.

I tried that setup on my CZ Scorpion, but while you definitely can use the irons through the skeletonized mount base, that setup put the optic too high for my preference.

And the optic is the primary sight.

It might work for you with your long neck, though.

I went with a UTG Pro base and Scalarworks 1.42" Aimpoint mount. I like it. Custom Smith Mfg. folding adaptor w/ Gear Head Works brace. Kept it as a pistol to be legal in vehicle when fully loaded. I was pretty surprised at the quality and how low the UTG base was. Magpul handguard with a TLR-7 finishes it off. Handguard has a little lip on the front that keeps fingers away from muzzle unlike the factory guard that slants toward the muzzle.

I run the B&T stock and have been really happy with it. But if you want to keep it all HK get an A2.
Optics is a battle. I need a dot given my age so I just accept the irons aren't going to be cowitness or lower or see through or whatever and run a T2 in a B&T mount.

The A2 stock is the most comfortable. I personally like the A3F best though and have them on all my full-size MP5s.

As for optic mounts, I find the diopters too cluttered to go with a low mount and instead prefer the dot above the irons with the ability to use the irons through the bottom of the mount. The current best setup I’ve found is the Aimpoint ACRO-P2 in a Titan mount.

I have an Acro P2 on a Scalarworks mount sitting on a low profile MFI. I can use the irons below the red dot with this setup, but I do have to adjust my aim several inches high at close range (zeroed at 25y). I went with the Safety Harbor KES stock because it is so minimalist.

Josh,

I’m seeing NEW A3 stocks for 1k. Titan defense has used ones for $600. Still a little steep but not many choices. Do you have any other places to try? Ive run through pages of google results, most being out of stock.

You’re probably finding the standard A3 stock, which is peak aesthetic, but the concave buttstock shape is not very comfortable. I like the F stock.

MP5F 4-pos stock

MP5F 3-pos stock

MP5F 2-position stock

I have a number of B&T low profile rails that I modified to allow me to use the Arisaka Defense 1.54” mk2 mount, which also allows you to use the irons through the mount while placing the dot above the irons. IMO, the Titan Acro-p2 mount is the best option at present, because it’s a single mount and locks up solidly on both of the receiver’s optic mounting points. The ACRO-p2 is also a fantastic SMG optic. That combo is my current favorite setup for my MP5s and MP5Ks.

Got the suppressor I wanted for it, the original A3 style stock, and some extra mags.

I’ll wait to shoot it before adding an optic and sling. See what works best.

I do like that titan mount for sure.

Just throwing out another option. I have one, it's tighter than two coats of paint.

I wanted a certain aesthetic, so I went with the B&T low mount with a T-1. She's low for sure, but it's what I wanted.

Be advised, this (B&T)is NOT a pic rail attachment, so it can be a PITA to get the correct optic mount.

Why use a Turkish stock on a German gun when the genuine article is available?

I just watched a TFB TV video this morning on the FBI’s MP5 10mm. That’s the coolest gun I’ve seen in a while.
Let us know how you like it when you get it out finally. I live vicariously because I’m just south of you in Il.
