Other than having the HK logo on it to appeal to the fan base, I'm not really seeing the appeal of this design.

Can someone educate me on what I'm missing?

I'm a huge HK fan but that design does nothing for me as well.
I wouldn't mind the HK USC 45 though.

HK - finger on the pulse of the gun market, as always. People wanted to buy a civilian G36 fifteen years ago. They’ll sell these to the die-hard fans who want to convert them, and they’ll go nowhere but up I value, but hell if it makes sense to me.

I said when they announced this the other day.
Why not just release a civilian G36?
The ban era is over so we’ll guns that aren’t ban compliant.

While I am a weirdo who LOVES the look of this gun, always have, there is no denying the “baggage” associated with the AWB this comes with and that alone will turn off folks. Not to mention the ton of folks who would shed a kidney for a semi auto true HK G36.

At the very least they should have redesigned the mag well and bolt to allow for use of G36 or STANAG mags.

I do dig this gun though even with all its “failings”. Not enough to buy one though so there is that.

I'm with you on that. It is something I don't at all need, and I don't really have much use for HK, but I've always liked the look of that gun and it gives me a certain amount of nostalgia (for better or worse).

I might actually consider buying one, despite HK's absurd markup ("cuz HK") and the limitations of the rifle. And, no, I wouldn't want to convert it to a G36 clone.

Unless they make them in the US, they'd still be banned. They may be gearing up for ban compliant rifles in anticipation of another one. (rather than tooling up stateside for a G36 clone only to have the rug yanked out.)

And when you charge twice as much, you only have to sell half as many.

I laughed at someone's comment about an outdated design.
That rifle design from 1956 seems to still be selling well. Smile

The import ban still exists. The gun has to be imported in a “sporting” configuration. To get around that, they’d have to build them over here, or make enough US parts to legally convert them to a non-sporting configuration like the G36. Besides, you suck and HK hates you.

The most recent imports by HK:

SP5L pistol with 16" barrel and 3 lug suppressor mount.

SL8 rifle with thumbhole stock, 10 round magazine, and non-threaded barrel.

Words fail.

Ahh yes forgot about the import part.

Seriously? They're re-releasing the same garbage, limited, 10 round version instead of a version that's actually closer to a G36 in appearance? They couldn't figure out how to make some parts over there and some parts over here for compliance? Everything about this truly does reek of "Because you suck, and we hate you.".

Not that it matters after the melting issues in the G36 and HKs attempts to avoid responsibility when people's rifles were failing in combat, just like EOTech trying to avoid admitting that their red dots drifted. Both companies that I used to think highly of and couldn't give less of a rats ass about now.

As for the stuff about importation, FN manages to get it done with the SCAR. They arrive with really squirrely features and then they pop them in the Easy Bake Oven stateside and they come out looking like something people would want to buy.

Also, MP5L? That one flew under my radar. What a pile of stupid. Good grief.
