When I bought this parts rifle the brass butt plate was broke. Foolishly I threw it away thinking it would be an easy replacement. As you can see most standard buy butt plates don’t fit this stock, not even close. It has no notch at all in the top, and quite a ledge on it vice the small curve of most butt plates. Does anyone know of a variant that had a substantially different butt plate?

Research is looking like an Ishipore stock and corresponding buttplate?

We have a No1 MkIII*, a No4 Mk1, and a No 5 Mk1. Both the No1 and No4 have a similar baseplate to the one in your pic, and fit flush to the back of the stock with the rounded cutout at the top. Those stocks do not have the relieved portion at the back like yours.

The No5 has more of a capped type butt plate with a rubber insert, and it fits over a recess in the stock kind of similar to the way yours is relieved, but I don't think it's exactly the same. There's a screw that goes through from the top to the bottom all the way through the stock to hold it in place.

Here's a pic. No5 at the top, No4 at the bottom. The No1 is basically the same as the No4.

That might make sense. I don't have an Ishapore, but it wouldn't surprise me if there are some differences.

eTA: Looking at pics online I do believe you are correct.

Yep. Looks like a buttstock from an Ishapore 2A or 2A1. Basically simplified SMLEs chambered in .308, produced by the Indian military in the 1960s.

They had wraparound buttplates made from some flavor of aluminum alloy.

I'm about 95% sure the buttplates are the same as the Indians used on their L1 and L1A1 FALs from the same time period, so you may be able to scrounge one of those up if a 2A/2A1 buttplate isn't available, such as this: https://www.arizonaresponsesys...m/product/buttplate/

These are my 2A1s:
