As a younger man with better eyes, I ran that combo. It worked well. I loved my 4x when I was in Iraq (04) and Afghanistan (09).

Fast forward almost 16 years and I recently had to sell all my ACOGS. There is no way to adjust the reticle for older eyes and that is why the ACOG is a young man’s optic Big Grin.

I don’t know how old you are but enjoy that set-up if your eyes allow you to.

Hello, jljones.

I wanted to bump this old-ish thread to see if you had any additional thoughts on the TA-02 after using it some more. Specifically, I was wondering if the battery-powered TA-02, on which you can set the reticle at a specific brightness, allows the ACOG to be more usable at close distance.

I have been experimenting with a TA-31 myself (M193 chevron reticle), and like it very much as a general purpose rifle optic. It's just an easy button. Like you, I have found that shooting at close distance to not be a problem, especially with the reticle brightly-illuminated. The scope shadow from not being perfectly up close to the optic actually aids in it's usage at close distance. The optic body tends to fade away and you instinctively just shoot the target where you want. Whereas, if you want to take a bit extra time and really focus, you can.

It is not as easy, though, when the reticle isn't very bright in certain conditions. Thus, I was wondering if the battery-powered TA-02 could be even better at close distance, the bright flash of color aids in quicker shooting. Note that I have no desire to place a red rot on top. Thoughts on this topic? Thanks for your time.

Chris

I’ve got very little experience with the TA31 series. Although I think I’d love to try one. The TA02 doing close in stuff works just ok for me. It’s a bit harder than let’s say a Razor 1x6 at similar distances.

But the TA02/RMR combo works great
