I have the cardboard boxes that the last couple rifles I bought came in. Is there any reason to keep them? Whenever I look at the boxes I keep thinking that they add value to the rifle and I can't get rid of them. Thanks for any thoughts. Welcome to my home, that door you just kicked in, was locked for your protection, not mine.

I have always kept mine. Always felt they added resale value on pistols but honestly I don’t think they would ad any value to a long gun or they wouldn't for me. It would nice but I would ad any value money wise.

Always keep pistol boxes. Rifle boxes I usually just keep the end tabs if they have all the info on them.

I have saved mine, but probably should get rid of them. The only time I've seen it make a difference on resale is with collectibles sold "with box and papers". Sure, there's a chance that your Glock 19 will become collectible in 50 years, but I think you are looking at lottery odds.

I save mine. They really came in handy the two time we’ve moved across the country. I only have two that definitely add value to the somewhat rare rifle, otherwise I don't keep em. (they usually end up being used when I sell something else) It's the plastic cased ones that cause me problems. Don't like throwing them away, but don't need them all either.

As I was looking at my stash just recently and realized I could get rid of some rifle boxes, but it’s very useful to have a suitable one if it’s ever necessary to ship the rifle someplace for a sale or to have work done on it. I’ve never seen any good substitutes and I’ve had to send rifles away for work several times over the years. ► 6.0/94.0 I can tell at sight a Chassepot rifle from a javelin.

I kept one for shipping purposes. I have boxes for all the pistols though and all of the optics. It's all in large plastic bins up in the attic out of the way along with boxes of spare Pmags and holsters.

I keep all mine. It's been handy in the past when selling or trading in. Doesn't add much value, but it is a definite nudge towards closing the deal.

My Tikka box actually has made for a great recurve box for my daughter's takedown bow. Otherwise, I've kept the plastic cases that some handguns came in, but no cardboard The Enemy's gate is down.

I agree. The original box, while not giving any inherent value in modern non collectible guns, tends to imply a gun well cared for and may as the apprentice indicated seal a deal

Yep, me too. I'm just wired that way. Still have boxes for any knife I ever bought too. ____________ Pace
