Do not hold the unit in front of your face when you fire it. Keep it at waist level, a green laser would help with accuracy.

I have been trying t get one for a few weeks. Every time I get a notification that it is back in stock is sells out before I can respond. I wanted to get at least two, one for my office and have a backup in my backseat.

Having shot a box of 1200 fps birdshot/target loads through mine, I can tell you that the thing does buck when you ride it. At a certain point I tried the obvious thing -- loaded one shell and fired one handed -- almost dropped it.

The hand grip is too slick imo, and I'm in agreement with the laser sight being a great idea here.

But cheese n' rice is it ever fun!

Well, I guess I should visit this part of the forum more often!

Didn’t even know this existed until a quasi-local dealer posted having them in stock. Honestly shocked that my dumb ass state (WA) hasn’t banned them yet so of course I felt pressured to buy one.

Have always been enamored with compact 12 gauge destruction ever since the Serbu Shorty made news way back when.

Decided if I wanted one, I better act fast as WA keeps trying to pass more and more laws. Quasi-local dealer seemed a bit over priced at $1150, but found one in stock at Kygunco for $911 delivered. Quick call to my transfer FFL to confirm they are legal, and placed my order today. Should get to see it next week and then actually possess it sometime in the second half of Sept due to state quarantine laws.

It will be a nice companion for my 930 SPX.

What I need to find out now is what the law is on car carry. WA state allows loaded pistol carry with a CPL. That lets me carry the AR pistol locked and loaded. No loaded rifles/shotguns allowed in vehicles, but as an “AOW” is this still considered a shotgun?

I know the AOW designation negates it being considered a SBS, it’s not a pistol due to overall length. I guess the accurate term is “Pistol Grip Firearm” (PGF).

Maybe I have answered my own question - if it isn’t a “pistol” (handgun) by ATF definition, maybe my CPL doesn’t allow it.

It is NOT an AOW. That requires a stamp. It is "Other", not a pistol, rifle, shotgun, antique, or SBR (the buckets WA has). WA law is focused on pistols, not rifles or shotguns: RCW 9.41.050:

Carrying firearms.
(1)(a) Except in the person's place of abode or fixed place of business, a person shall not carry a pistol concealed on his or her person without a license to carry a concealed pistol.
(b) Every licensee shall have his or her concealed pistol license in his or her immediate possession at all times that he or she is required by this section to have a concealed pistol license and shall display the same upon demand to any police officer or to any other person when and if required by law to do so. Any violation of this subsection (1)(b) shall be a class 1 civil infraction under chapter 7.80 RCW and shall be punished accordingly pursuant to chapter 7.80 RCW and the infraction rules for courts of limited jurisdiction.
(2)(a) A person shall not carry or place a loaded pistol in any vehicle unless the person has a license to carry a concealed pistol and: (i) The pistol is on the licensee's person, (ii) the licensee is within the vehicle at all times that the pistol is there, or (iii) the licensee is away from the vehicle and the pistol is locked within the vehicle and concealed from view from outside the vehicle.
(b) A violation of this subsection is a misdemeanor.
(3)(a) A person at least eighteen years of age who is in possession of an unloaded pistol shall not leave the unloaded pistol in a vehicle unless the unloaded pistol is locked within the vehicle and concealed from view from outside the vehicle.
(b) A violation of this subsection is a misdemeanor.
(4) Nothing in this section permits the possession of firearms illegal to possess under state or federal law.

Other than that there is this: RCW 9.41.270 (1) It shall be unlawful for any person to carry, exhibit, display, or draw any firearm . . . in a manner, under circumstances, and at a time and place that either manifests an intent to intimidate another or that warrants alarm for the safety of other persons.

Open carry is otherwise allowed except:

RCW 9.41.305
Open carry of weapons prohibited on state capitol grounds and municipal buildings.
(1) Unless exempt under subsection (3) of this section, it is unlawful for any person to knowingly open carry a firearm or other weapon, as defined in RCW 9.41.300(1)(b), while knowingly being in the following locations:
(a) The west state capitol campus grounds; any buildings on the state capitol grounds; any state legislative office; or any location of a public state legislative hearing or meeting during the hearing or meeting; or
(b) City, town, county, or other municipality buildings used in connection with meetings of the governing body of the city, town, county, or other municipality, or any location of a public meeting or hearing of the governing body of a city, town, county, or other municipality during the hearing or meeting.
(2) For the purposes of this section:
(a) "Buildings on the state capitol grounds" means the following buildings located on the state capitol grounds, commonly known as Legislative, Temple of Justice, John L. O'Brien, John A. Cherberg, Irving R. Newhouse, Joel M. Pritchard, Helen Sommers, Insurance, Governor's Mansion, Visitor Information Center, Carlyon House, Ayer House, General Administration, 1500 Jefferson, James M. Dolliver, Old Capitol, Capitol Court, State Archives, Natural Resources, Office Building #2, Highway-License, Transportation, Employment Security, Child Care Center, Union Avenue, Washington Street, Professional Arts, State Farm, and Powerhouse Buildings.
(b) "Governing body" has the same meaning as in RCW 42.30.020.
(c) "West state capitol campus grounds" means areas of the campus south of Powerhouse Rd. SW, south of Union Avenue SW as extended westward to Powerhouse Rd. SW, west of Capitol Way, north of 15th Avenue SW between Capitol Way S. and Water Street SW, west of Water Street between 15th Avenue SW and 16th Avenue SW, north of 16th Avenue SW between Water Street SW and the east banks of Capitol Lake, and east of the banks of Capitol Lake.
(3) Duly authorized federal, state, or local law enforcement officers or personnel are exempt from this section when carrying a firearm or other weapon in conformance with their employing agency's policy. Members of the armed forces of the United States or the state of Washington are exempt from this section when carrying a firearm or other weapon in the discharge of official duty or traveling to or from official duty.
(4)(a) A person violating this section is guilty of a misdemeanor.
(b) Second and subsequent violations of this section are a gross misdemeanor.
(5) Nothing in this section applies to the lawful concealed carry of a firearm by a person who has a valid concealed pistol license.
(6) A city, town, county, or other municipality must post signs providing notice of the restrictions on possession of firearms and other weapons under this section at any locations specified in subsection (1)(b) of this section.

Ok, after reading, re-reading, and re-re-reading the relevant RCW’s as well as ATF info, here is what I found:

Per ATF, the 990 and similar firearms are “Other” or “Pistol Grip Firearms/Pistol Grip Only” (PGF/PGO). Based on an overall length greater than 26” they are not considered “readily concealable” so they avoid the NFA and tax/transfer requirements.

For some reason, way back when the ATF decided to distinguish “smooth bore” pistols from pistols with rifled barrels. However by design (pistol grip only) they are “kinda” pistols, but “special”

WA state law defines a “Pistol” as:”Any firearm with a barrel less than 16 inches in length, or is designed to be held and fired by the use of a single hand.”

They make no additional definitions as to minimum or maximum length, no references to the ATF’s “AOW” or “Other” classifications or any other requirements.

As such, it would seem (in WA state at least) that my CPL would provide the full range of entitlement and protection regarding carry of the 990 as it does for any other “pistol”.

Concealed? CHECK!
Loaded in vehicle? CHECK!

Very happy with this, not that I expect to carry it frequently but nice to know I can toss it ready to go in a backpack or sling bag without legal jeopardy should it come to the authorities attention.

Of course the idea of cool tactical thigh holster does have a certain appeal - wonder if anyone is making such a thing Big Grin

For those who have a 990 in hand, can it be “Ghost loaded” to make it a 6+1?

Anyone tried it? My 930 does it, been so long I had forgotten about it.

You can ghost load it, but based on the jamming I get when trying to run through shells by working the action, I have my doubts about it cycling past the first shot.

Now that I’ve confirmed this is basically considered a “pistol” in regards to WA state carry, looking for a discreet way to transfer to/from vehicle, on the bus, checking the mail, etc. Wink

Thinking about a tripod bag, would fit in with all my camera gear.

Apart from the box of flowers, which I heartily endorse, it's OAL is just under 28 inches. Bit too big for the tactical backpack, but maybe there is an argument for the tactical clarinet case?

After the mandatory WA state 15 day purgatory, I brought mine home yesterday!

Love the solid feel, and can’t wait to “personalize” it with a few accessories. Green laser/light combo arrived today, adapter and other parts to put a brace on it ordered and shipped. Undecided on a side-saddle still looking.

Found a place that does custom leather fore-end straps (here) and will probably order one once I decide on a design.

Looking forward to see how it functions with my HD #1 Buck!
