Is an unmodified WWII era M1 Carbine legal in Massachusetts? Does it skirt the MA Assault Weapons Ban?

A M1 Carbine would be MA legal. To be considered an assault weapon it has to have a detachable magazine plus at least two of the following: -Folding or telescoping stock -Pistol grip -Bayonet mount -Flash hider or threaded barrel designed to accommodate one -Grenade launcher The base WW2-era M1 Carbine has a detachable magazine but none of those "evil" features. Even if it's the one of the M1 Carbines with the later barrel band with added bayonet lug, it still falls outside the MA definition by only having one feature. You just wouldn't be able to have a M1A1 paratrooper carbine folding stock along with a later bayonet lug. Or add an aftermarket folding stock or thread the barrel on a carbine that has the bayonet lug. Or use modern production >10 round magazines, though surplus 15 or 30 round USGI magazines are fine.

Thank you RogueJSK. It is good to know. My father just passed away in February, and I am shipping his collection home to Massachusetts. The M1 Carbine belonged to my grandfather who served in the Navy during WWII. It would be a shame to to be able to have it.
