Is it the best scope ever no. But I have that particular scope and it's a damn good scope for less than $500!! Chinese scopes used to be like looking through a jar of Piss, a lot of the ones out today like the Athlon ARES are VERY Good scopes with lots of excellent features and are really hard to beat for the price. Are they as good as my Swarovski Target Scopes - OF COURSE NOT, but they are 1/4 to 1/8th the price and are still quite good.

If you have political issues buying anything from China, no problem but You do You. People who want to achieve equivalent performance for 1/3 to 1/4 price shouldn't be scolded if that's the best they can afford. I have quite a few stupid expensive scopes but for other rifles I'm not going to feel bad for using an inexpensive Scope that's quite good.

This is just my personal opinion, others can have equally valid opinions that are the opposite.........DJ

I snagged a pair of Athlon binos from a PRS prize table. They sell for much less than the Vortex Razor binos I currently use for spotting. They are so close to on par, perhaps even equal, it isn't even funny. I was VERY impressed when I was prepared to be disappointed. Athlon is nothing to sneeze at and they are definitely doing some things right.

I need to get them out side by side on two tripods and really evaluate them in different lighting conditions. The cursory evaluation I did left me pretty shocked. I didn't think they would be nearly so good.

Picked up some Pmags and a KAK single port Plan B, so I’m headed off to the range in a bit to zero it and get a feel for it. Finally snagged a spotting scope, so zeroing should be less of a hassle. Not exactly match ammo, but it’s what I’ve got.

Six round range trip. Used someone's used Shoot 'n See at 50 to get on paper and was pleased to discover that it was only a half inch high and maybe a quarter inch left on the first round. Couldn't believe it. Put two rounds on a two foot steel diamond at 300 yards and then one into a one foot square steel right next to it, called it good. This thing'll shoot, it's just begging for more magnification. Very pleasant shooter with the Ekron on it, too. Haven't shot it unsuppressed, and may never unless I have some compelling reason to.

A couple of my guys are trying to get me to shoot a PRS match next weekend. Both are offering to loan me scopes and one of them is offering to let me borrow an MDT chassis as well. This is going to be fun.

In the near term: bipod, tripod, sandbags.
Long term: Much better glass, probably a chassis and do the Arca Swiss plate and weights thing. It definitely needs some more weight on it.
