So….I ordered a few of these mags in the OD green color to match my rifle and new 12.5” SBR with OD green accents. I have to say, these mags look damn sexy and function just as well as my regular PMAGs.

The T is for translucent and according to Magpul, should be pretty close to the durability of a standard PMAG. They say close because you have to give up some of the strengtheners of the solid color mags to get a translucent mag, but they have come up with a formula that gives you a clear mag and still have great strength.

We’ll see how they hold up, but did I mention how sexy they look Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

What are your experiences if you have used the?

This, along with the higher price over non-translucent Pmags, and the fact that I have plenty of all sorts of AR magazines, add up to me having no interest in these magazines. The first reason alone is enough to purchase standard Pmags instead of these new ones.

I like the idea of being able to see the number of rounds in the mag, but I'm not sure it's worth the extra cost or durability compromise for most of what I'm doing. For my work and personal guns, I pretty much just fill the mags and leave them.

I could see the value for a range mag for qualifications courses or other drills where you're supposed to load a set number of rounds. Inevitably at least one person always gets talking instead of counting and screws it up. I'd probably draw lines or mark them somehow to show the regular load-out intervals.

I got a couple just to try them out. Work OK, but not going to replace my existing Pmags or Lancers

Of course you know that Magpul already offers magazines which allow ammo level to be checked at a glance.

Yes, but the window pmags are more designed to show that a mag is full than to allow you to count rounds. The window is only in the bottom part of the mag, so unless you've got at least 10-15 rounds loaded it shows nothing. Most of our drills use fewer than that, so the transparent mags would add some convenience.

Either way, I'm not spending the money on them, and work isn't going to either, so the guys are just going to have to count.

They do look nice, but function over form.

I'll stick with my aluminum or Lancer magazines. If they put metal feed lips on these, I may reconsider.

I've got a couple that I use mainly to separate magazines loaded specifically for my SBR. I'm not using them as range mags and so far in my limited use haven't seen any issues leaving them fully loaded. They do feel a little less stiff than the standard mags. I probably don't have more than 200 rounds through any one of them, but thus far don't see any undue wear.

Now that you mention it, I think I'll put one into my range bag and see how it holds up to abuse.

Isn't there a portion of the spring that's painted orange, which enables a round count estimate, even when the rounds themselves are no longer visible?

That may be. I don't have any, so I'm not sure. Either way, it's not going to be as definite as actually being able to see and count the individual rounds. I'm probably not buying any of these regardless, I was just trying to think of a situation where the translucent material could add some practical value.

These are perfect for a Sig 556 to get the look of the old translucent ones the Sig 550 used.

Also maybe for a STANG magwell AUG.

Otherwise I don't like the green color as much as smoke Lancers.

I certainly wouldn't turn my nose up at free ones, but I'm also not going to spend more for a TMAG over a PMAG or Lancer.

Plus, I'd have to make my brass extra clean and shiny- no more water spots. No thank you.

Grabbed 2 on sale recently. Just becuase. they are visually pretty awesome, But nothing extraordinary. Having a clear one or 2 loaded with premium home defense ammo Vs range FMJ ammo would make it easier to identify quickly.

First, the obligatory: “I don’t have any need or plans to buy any myself,” but pure looks drive many decisions guns owners make, and what looks more bad ass than that gleaming* stack of brass or silver? Unlike many just for looks mods, though, being able to see all the cartridges in the magazine could have practical value under some circumstances.

* Of course, if the balloon goes up, it would be good to have a roll of camo gaffer tape or a can of FDE paint handy to reduce the visual signature.
