Rockola M14 19.25 Red dot blaster setup
Being stuck in Cal for a few years has me recalibrating my 308 shorty situation. The M14 is a rifle I can use here, otherwise my SCAR does this job. This JRA Rockola rifle is a 19.25 CL standard. I'd prefer 16 because I want this fast and handy, but I'm not going to be buying another M14 for now. I also have a bunch of ZQI ammo I figure needs a job too. It's not very precise, but I am not interested in that for this rifle.

I was thinking kind of a BHD type deal would do it. So I was thinking a basset mount, red dot, and fiberglass stock was needed. Problem is I have this really nice stock that came with it, and a Birch Tiger Stripe for it I don' t want to mess up. So that would be a 3rd stock for this rifle. And having extra stocks around, they get watered and grow into new rifles. Plus I'd prefer a pistol grip on something like this, which is an entirely new can of worms. So I shut my mouth and went with the Walnut stock for now.

I had to neuter it with a muzzle brake for Cal, after that it's all factory. Bassett low Mount (my first and I'm impressed). Aimpoint H2 with low Larue mount.

Initially I was not liking it because the wood is a little slick and the cheek weld was way high. So I took the Bradley off my other rifle and used it, at least for the range. Perfectly in line.

So I zeroed it at 50 where I want it. Took it to 100, small fine tunes there. Back to 50 to put 15 in the black and go home confident in it. 80 rounds fired total. This will eat nothing but my stash of ZQI as it sits. Handy quick carbine type deal. I can do a lot in the real world with a 2 MOA red dot. I still may get a synthetic stock and paint it for fun and do my BHD impression. Maybe not.

If you want to reduce the overall length, you could remove that long combination front sight/muzzle device, and install a Smith Enterprises gas lock front sight instead.

This is available either with an integral hooded front sight: https://www.smithenterprise.co...-front-sight-hooded/

Or a gas lock with a dovetail for a standard USGI front sight: https://www.smithenterprise.co...-glfs-d-22-dovetail/

You could then cap the muzzle threads with either a short muzzle brake or just a thread protector. With no muzzle device, this brings the length back to just the 19.25" barrel, about 4 inches shorter than the current configuration with its long combo front sight/muzzle device.

I did that with my 18" M1A Scout, which comes with the standard combo front sight/muzzle device in its original configuration. I swapped it for a SEI hooded gas lock front sight and a shorter flash hider, bringing it down to not much longer in OAL than a 16" M1A SOCOM with its chunky front sight and muzzle brake:

Look, if you keep posting this picture I'm going to have to file for a restraining order. It's cruel and definately harassing my wallet.

It's a good option for sure. I've got Mallory setup that way.

Don't want to spend 1 extra penny on this rifle and it needs to get back to this ASAP.

This setup is a band aid for my time in this communist hell hole. I do like shooting it though and a 16 inch with synthetic stock and a pistol grip would be a lot of fun and an improvement over this. Problem is I have a SCAR for that and the only place the M14 makes any sense tactically is in a restricted communist territory.

See, here I was considering taking and posting a newer photo of it in its current configuration.

That one's like 3 years old, and doesn't reflect the additional upgrades I've made since...

Throw em up! No doubt it's a relevant to solution to many problems the only remedy for is a fast swinging 308.

Heck yeah that sucker fits the bill.

Someone who knows better than me will probably chime in here, but I think that will land you a felony around here. Maybe you just pin the stock and change out the flash hider and they will allow you to carry on. Get me outta this zoo.

Pete,

Here's a picture of my new "shortie". Think you'll like it. Cammie patter is "cat puke" camoflauge.

Looks handy Wes, is that a standard weight CL barrel?

I think the more important question is what the hell are you doing awake at 3:16 AM Wes? Big Grin

I've always wanted an LRB rifle. The Tanker haunted me for years. When I was ready to get one, it was 2013 or whatever and they could not be had.

Pete,

0316 is normal hours for me. I have sleep apnea. I normally sleep from about 11 PM until 0200 and then I'm wide awake until about 0500. Then back to bed until about 0830. It sucks, but that's the way it is...

It's hard to go wrong with an LRB action and they stand behind the product. A talented friend build this one using his "shortie" as a pattern. It's a great rifle and sports a US Optics 1-8 scope now. I really like it with iron sights though.

Right on. Quiet at night. Good to get some research done.
