Love me an MP5. I've fired a lot of different machine guns over the year. Even better the government always paid the ammo bill. I always started a new shooter out with the MP5 when doing a machine gun shoot for prosecutors, media, politicians, etc. My experience demonstrated time and again that it was the most controllable, especially for new shooters. It's actually pretty amazing how tight of a group I could maintain on a mag dump. Such a great gun. While there are other machine guns that I perhaps enjoyed shooting more (can you say BAR from the hip?) the reality is that when I retire and decide to treat myself to a nice sports car worth of machine gun, it will be an HK transferrable sear. The MP5 is the machine gun that I would unquestionably shoot the most, and I love shooting the HK 53 full auto too, although that absolutely does move if you don't lean hard into it. “It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. MP5 is def a bucket list gun to shoot. I have had the pleasure of shooting the MP5 and MP5SD several times while on active duty. I enjoyed it enough to buy a semiauto clones (9mm then 22LR), many many years ago. It's all my budget could handle. Get the 22LR copy for a fraction of the price if you really need to scratch that itch. | |||

The Mp5 is perfection. It has a specific purpose, that it does wonderfully, as long as the lube holds out. I've had the pleasure of a variety, my favorite is the Mp5k-sd. I did cheap out when I bought a copy. ![]() But a tax stamp and heart transplant later, it's got the barrel and trunnion, and HKparts has my money... The rest is Timney. I do love the DOE, but the Mp5 is legend Edited to add.. the engraving is in the stock channel. I was able to carry an H&K MP-5 (full stock and the collapsible) the MP-5SD, the Navy model (safe-single-3rd burst-full auto selector), and the lovely MP-5K. There was even a -53 that was used a lot! There was a lot of “BARK” on that one, LOUD! Damn I miss my favorite Uncle Sam! He had cool toys and free ammo! Never was able to find the suitcase, I wanted to try that one out. The selector switch- or paddle, was a little big, but I never had any problems using it, nice with gloves on too. The trigger never bothered me, but I also don’t mind an old, beat up MilSpec trigger. Call me crazy, I guess. That being said, having a fine piece of German Engineering in my hand, I would expect something just a little nicer. Just a little more crisp. Yeah, there is that deep chamber, and hard to peep down there for checking an empty chamber. Cleaning it, well, we cheated- Carb cleaner. I also found that they really worked well when wet- we used a lot of oil on them. Never had any problems working the bolt. Slapping it was fun, but we were taught to use your thumb / web of the left hand to release it. I’d love to have one! BTW, 92fstech, don't hesitate to get a Beretta 1301! I love mine! You boys can do your homework and see if I'm right. Like the P7, the Mp5 has an operational round count. These weapons are purpose built for a number of rounds down the pipe in a given encounter.
