It has been a while since I've shot competitively, but back when I did IDPA / 3-gun pretty regularly, and RO'd quite a bit, I can say I never saw a 930 make it through a full match without one or more failures. Probably half of the semis were 930s, and pretty universally there were junk. Given that shotgun stages are mostly exercises in reloading, you'd score better with an 870 and just a little practice.

From what I hear, 940s are better, but that is mostly from what various YouTubers say, no personal experience, so take with a fistful of salt.

Yeah, I am mystified. I don't like those Surefire/Streamlight foreends, and putting the light on the slide didn't seem really practical. Maybe a button operated one up on the barrel clamp?

Yes, sir, I can get hands on an example tomorrow and take a few pics for you.

- - - - -

ETA setup details.

The setup I can get hold of this morning uses a short section of Picatinny rail attached to the M-lok forend, then a Fenix ALG-00 mount and a Fenix PD35. The PD35 tail cap was replaced with the Fenix AER-02 remote switch, whose switch sticks to the right-hand side of the forend.

Pics coming shortly.

Why not? While I don't have any personal experience with the Streamlight Racker lights (and reviews are middling), the Surefire foreends are great quality, and the activation button layout is ideal. Way better than any other light setup I've ever tried on a pump shotgun. There's a reason that they've been a staple on LE/Mil tactical shotguns for like 3 decades now.

While a new Surefire DSF will run you $350-$400, you can find used examples of the old incandescent version for cheap (<$100). These old ones are bombproof, just lacking in light output. But you can then upgrade it with a ~$100 Malkoff drop-in to have a high quality modern LED foreend on your shotgun for around $200.

Well, to be fair I have zero experience with any of them. They just look clunky and front heavy. Plus I'm still hoping for a semi. Big Grin

So someone is buying me the one I don't get? I humbly accept this karma!!! Big Grin

What am I looking at in that 3rd pic? I think what gives me pause with that set up is shadow from the the light being back so far on the left. In my mind the light on the pump would be mounted on the clamp with the switch on the forearm (and the problem to solve is how to run the cable so it doesn't get jerked out/caught while racking).

Did EOTech make a Surefireesque forearm? I came across one on EBay, wondered if it was some sort of one off thing.

The third pic is essentially a closeup of the second, but with the gun rolled more to its right side — so you’re basically looking at it from underneath. I took that pic so as to get a peek at that small piece of pic rail.

I understand your concern about shadow. I’ll see if I can get hold of that gun again tonight and see how prominent the shadow is.

My only complaint with my A300 is its kind of a PITA to disassemble and clean

I put one of those Surefire DSF's on my 870. It was heavy and clunky and didn't fit my hand well so I wound up taking it back off. I'd make somebody a good deal on it.

I tried a little doodad that I got from (I think) GGG. It's a flat steel piece with a cutout in the middle for the mag tube. It fits at the front of the mag tube and is held in place by the mag cap (or extension). It has a short pic rail section on it that pokes out to the side, parallel to the barrel, to clamp a light on. Nice idea but it didn't quite work either. I couldn't get the light's tailcap positioned for easy access, and there's really no place to mount a tape switch on a pump (unless you have the Magpul forend, which I don't).

So I'm also still searching for a good WML solution for the 870. A Magpul forend like Vthoky's would probably work OK. A semi-auto would solve the whole problem, but I don't have the budget now for a new shotgun. PSA had the A300 Patrol on sale last week, but I screwed around too long thinking about it and when I finally decided to order one they were out of stock. I'm sure the sale will be over before they get any more in.

ETA: So I clicked on the "Notify me when back in stock" button earlier this morning. And not more than a few hours later I got an email saying "Hey, we got some more of them!" So I call the local pawn shop to verify they still do FFL transfers for PSA, they do. Straight to the web site, it says In Stock, so BOOM! Order one. Got the email acknowledgement. $20 shipping and $51 sales tax, but I got one coming. Half an hour later they're out of stock again, go figure.

I think I know the GG&G piece you're talking about. It's a whole mag clamp I think.

I don't get why Beretta (or GG&G when they modded that Magpul Zhukov stock) didn't continue the M-Lok holes down the length of the forearm. That'd make it easy to mount a switch.

This is it. The pic rail section is 1 3/4" long, 4 slots. The ring just above the rail is for a sling snap hook. I also found that the presence of a sling kind of interferes with access to the light unless the sling is just hanging loose.

I was going to say... Nordic ^ makes a setup that you might be able to get close enough to reach with your thumb while holding the forend.
(though there are several companies who sell things like that, most of them chonky and horrific.

I like that Nordic piece there.

Gotta say, the LCP holster is pretty snazzy, too. Razz

A300 here, it’s awesome but its only downside is taking it apart to clean.

That looks kinda like the Arisaka Defense mount I've used on my ARs.

The light mount is a knock off of a Trex light bar I found on Amazon. It works, I wanted to make sure it would before I bought a Trex one.

I saw that effect on PSA’s web site on Wednesday (Christmas Eve) as well.

I’m sure it’s not the reality, but my cartoon-head pictured some college-age kid in the way-back of the warehouse, armed with a flashlight and a can of spider spray… “Hey, I found one!” Big Grin
