What is the term "ranch rifle" trying to convey or denote ? For those of us that don't know. Please Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. Neck Ties, Hats and ammo brass, Never ,ever touch'em w/o asking first

I do not know too many ranchers that have a spare $3K sitting around for such a firearm.

Why the oddly angled grip and trigger? Wouldn't you have to cock your shooting arm and elbow unnaturally high?

It's mainly a marketing term, used to describe a loosely defined category of intermediate caliber (5.56/.300/7.62x39/etc.) rifles with shorter (sub-20") barrels and traditional stocks. Often semiauto, but sometimes used for some bolt action rifles too. Usually featuring a detachable magazine with a higher capacity. Ruger popularized the term with their Mini-14, and some other companies have adopted the terminology. The term comes from that category of rifle being envisioned as sort of a do-all long gun for a farmer/rancher to carry on their horse or ATV for varmints, predators, and personal defense. (Kinda like a more modern cowboy lever rifle.) Meant to appeal to folks who prefer old school stocks, or those in ban states where the pistol grip is considered an "evil" feature. Distinct from something like a traditional hunting rifle with a longer barrel and larger caliber, or a modern defensive rifle (like an AR) with a separate pistol grip and more bells and whistles.

The opposite, in fact. It uses the Magpul SGA shotgun stock. The grip area on those is straighter up and down compared to a traditional shotgun stock, which serves to bring your strong side elbow in. But they're intended for use with a stance that's more squared to the target, not with the offside shoulder sharply bladed towards the target like the old school rifle shooting stance.

I swear I had something for this |
I doubt people are still interested, but good 'ol Ordnance Outsellers did make some pretty good point in favor of the rifle.

It's a funny world when I say even at todays absurd price a Ruger Mini-14 is a better deal. IDPA ESP SS

True, although the carrier is also proprietary. It has a FAL-like tail that activates a spring in the stock.

Sorta cool option/rifle but I think I would still grab a Mini 14...

Showed the image to 2 guys at work & asked them to guess the price. 800 & 1200 were their guesses. Big shock face when I told them the msrp. The Enemy's gate is down.

To me this sounds like one of those "Let's build something the Pentagon will ship 100,000 of to Ukraine so we can charge an exorbitant amount for which we can then launder back into politicians' pockets" kinda rifle. Not that I'm cynical. Phone's ringing, Dude.

There's nothing about this rifle that suggests it would be perfect for, or even all that suitable for, use in Ukraine. There's a very limited market for this rifle. With a more standard rifle, they're likely to sell a bajillion of them. So their R&D/tooling/etc. costs for the new rifle can be spread over a much larger number of rifles, with each rifle being able to be sold for less. With this, it only appeals to a very small niche. And niche/limited appeal firearms always cost more. Plus, if you live in a ban state, this is the only way to get a "real Sig MCX(ish) rifle". So they figure they can name their price, and you can pay their asking price or go without. Somebody will buy it.

I watched most of that video. James was very up on the rifle but watching the video the script didn't really seem to follow that conclusion. It seemed like a very well made gun that at best is a compilation of parts to fit a geographical problem. Does anyone really want a Mossberg Magpul stock? The mag release didn't really appear to have any solid answer to actuate it technique wise that wasn't much worse than a standard AR. Ban state gun I suppose, but for that money there has to be better choices.

You can use your support hand, either before reaching into your pouch or while holding the mag. I can see it losing 0.2 .. 0.5 sec on the timer. To call it "much" worse is a bit overdramatic. It's no different from FightLite SCR in this regard, or even Ruger PC for that matter. What kills this rifle the most is the price.

For me the sig is a HARD pass. They are grasping at straws period.

So that's it ? That's all ? A done deal ? No one even wants to shoot it , let alone buy one ? Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. Neck Ties, Hats and ammo brass, Never ,ever touch'em w/o asking first

What is the soup du jour? |
It's like $3k. You can buy the CMMG analog for half that. But for free state users, not only is it uninteresting, it's a non-starter at $3k. If I wanted the format, I would try out the CMMG for $1.5k before doubling it for the SIG. Check out the CMMG Dissent BR4.

I suspect the $3K price tag is a killer. You can get a Spear LT for $500 less.
