I think the idea is we're supposed to know that retail price is not the same as street price, and this makes it OK to ask obscene amounts for such items.
Well, it's not OK.

YooperSigsWell, it makes a $1200 Mini 14 a bargain. And it uses a MagPul stock for a Mossberg shotgun? Isnt that a heavy stock for an otherwise fairly light rifle?

Green HighlanderSaw it at the Sig Experience Center today. It’s ugly in person too. The guys who work at the range said it gets positive feedback from the folks who rent it. Sort of like that old joke about fat girls and mopeds.

monoblokRanchers DEMAND M-Lok. Defense of Department pricing as well.
Yeah, sure.
SIG, best you stick to pandering to and flirting with the Pentagon. Since it does seem that it's gotten to your head.

ElKabongUh, you can find a Mini14 in 300BO for under 1k easily, my local shop has one like new for $750
Is this marketed to CA ex-pats in red states that don’t realize there are other options ?

The street price will still be obscene.
I checked Friday with a distributor and with current cost from the distributor street cost from us will be $2990.95 with the listed MSRP being $3295.00. I have not seen this distributor play games with costs at release of new guns. Cost is cost and they don’t jack it sky high for new guns.
Even if I were to get the gun cost it’s still ridiculous. This gun will never come in at a cost that one would see a remotely reasonable for what it is.

But Mini-14s don't have MLOK slots... Plus I read on the internets that Mini-14s are so inaccurate as to be basically unusable past 5 feet.

casI have it on very good authority from industry insiders that SIG makes very little money from the sale of Mini-14's.

Interesting mindset. Anthropomorphic nonsense towards gun is normally a liberal's thing.

Rob DeckerSIG-Sauer will be eating none of Ruger's lunch at $3,000 a copy. As others have posted, that's a totally different price segment. I could see this competing with the Mini-14 in a similar price bracket but I can't imagine why anybody would want one of these instead of three Minis (or for that matter one Mini and a whole pisspot of x39 ammo).
I already thought this rifle was a product in search of a market before I saw the price tag.
If this is supposed to be a SIG SPEAR analogue to an HK SL8 - a ban compliant rifle with the military DNA for those living behind the curtain - then ok...I guess. Some will buy it.
Otherwise, who's the target demographic for this? Rich horse people who feel undergunned with a lever action or Mini? Well-to-do hunters who want a tactical rifle that doesn't have a pistol grip? What?

Snake207Fightlite and FM Products have had this out for years at over a third of the price.
I could see maybe $1,500 just cause it has SIG on it, but $3k is crack-smoking prices.
I'll be shocked if these aren't on CDNN for $1k within 3 years.

JonDaddy82I was thinking to myself, MAN...this is a nice Mini-14! But for $1,499. It was dead in the water the second it crossed $1,999.

SigSauerP226Definitely don’t see the point, as other have pointed out you can go Fightlite for half the price or get the lower and put whatever AR upper you want on it.

The standard mag release is the point of going featureless, it’s not one of the evil features.

Yes, the maths on that work out. And I guess based on that logic, every one they sell at that ridonkulous price is gravy since everything seems off the shelf and basic. The only way this will backfire is if this is seen as a slap in the face both of gunowners in ban states and non-ban states. Like profiteering. And, to me at least, this is at that line if not over.

AndybProbably best they just unrelease this

Interesting. Any thoughts on what Ruger might net from the MCX-Regulator sales?

I feel like it's a little bold of you to assume anybody is gonna buy this thing for three grand.

BB61I like the concept and how it looks. But as Para and 12131 have discussed, the price is simply a deal breaker. Even more so when you consider how fast SIG stops supporting/selling platforms.

I mean, the maths work out on that too, but I think Ruger might appreciate the hell out of this scenario:
Prospective Buyer: "Hmmm . . . that looks interesting. What's that?"
Gun Store Guy: Why its a Sig MCX-Regulator. It's an alternative to an AR for those looking for that."
PB: "Cool. It's something different than an AR you say. I might bite, how much is it?"
GSG: "This guy is priced at $2899."
PB: "WTF??!!! $3K?!"
GSG: "Sir, if you are interested in that, we have these Ruger Mini-14s that are a third of the price and yet very similar with a great track record."
PB: "Cool, show me one of those."

zaitcevRegulator looks like an interesting offering from SIG. With FightLite, you cannot be sure about the commitment or durability of the company. When they re-formatted from Ares Defense into FightLite, they stopped production of ACR for more than a year. It took a lot of persuasion by angry customers (and lack of success for the latest incarnation of Shrike). Now of course SIG is not a paragon of solidity if Beretta is your yardstick, but at least it's better than Ares. The only thing I don't like is how much longer Regulator is.

I'm not cheerleading for Fightlite, however, they use standard AR uppers so those parts, etcetera are not an issue. The stock is from a popular semiauto shotgun, parts are not an issue. The trigger is the only real proprietary part along with the actual lower. I have not yet broken an AR trigger or a lower but I continue to try via extensive use.
