It identifies as an HK MP5 so that is what you have to call it. If you won't, you're a hateful bigot. Trans Mp5s are Mp5s. This one actually just came back today. You can see pictured the PTR barrel and trunnion. They've been replaced with a B&T trilug with fluted chamber and the Mp5 trunnion. Because apparently PTR trunnions are made of fudge, rock candy, or some other incorrect material. Sp5's simply aren't available here, and checking today got even dumber in price if you can find one. What this project cost me is still cheaper, and that's crazy. I did have an olde beater Coharie Arms to trade on the PTR, and the PTR's were much cheaper when I bought this one. I'll settle for having an SBR'ed Mp5 clone, aside from its DNA it's an HK Mp5, and without the rail on top you'd be none the wiser. I went all out and it's got a Timney trigger pack. The regular trigger isn't awful but it's long and squishy, which isn't great. Now it's short and crisp and perfect for semiauto. The extra letter on the trigger pack is only that. I'm not quite out of new guns and projects to share yet. Almost there. Arc. ______________________________ "Like a bitter weed, I'm a bad seed"- Johnny Cash "I'm a loner, Dottie. It's pretty cool that there are several companies making them, including HK. Aside from all the history, in those heady days that I worked at a gun shop that rented machineguns.. I've always wanted one. But machineguns are spendy. The Coharie Arms, well if you know you know. When I saw a new PTR, I knew what I had to do. That thing is pretty sweet. I only have a MKE SP5 to keep me company until I retire in a couple years and get my retirement gift- a MP5. Who did your barrel swap, if I may ask?

Who swapped the barrel. I understand its not trivial on these. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”

I've spent a lot of time shooting other peoples machineguns, they sure are fun. Dumb laws have made them so spendy though. A fellow named Ghilliebear was recommended to me. I would recommend him.
Soo many stock options out there. But this is the only choice for style and compactness imo. I actually found complete demilled Mp5s for sale that cost what the stock did. But, I figure this stock is like Cock Pushups.
It turns on? Nah, a pressure switch on the less visually interesting side of the gun. This one is momentary only, you can get on/off switched or a combo. Yep. These Surefire foreend lights, whether for the MP5, 870, or otherwise, have a pressure pad on the right hand side that the user squeezes with their support hand fingertips when they want to activate the light. Some will also have a constant on/off switch on the left side that's operated by the support hand thumb.

The other piece to this lil story, because it goes back a few years (they seem to fly by now). Before I picked up the PTR, right around the beginning of this stupid pandemic bullshit, I wandered into my local fun shop on a saturday morning. They quit being open thursday late, so now when I browse it's sat morn. The owner says, hey this just came in, before I put it out, do you want a crack at it? I said, you son of a bitch. An unfired SP89? I actually passed on it, and went home. I wasn't going to pay that money, didn't need to think about it. Went home, thought about how cool it was, called him back an hour or so later to ask if it was spoken for. It wasn't, which was kinda surprising but kinda not. I asked, "hey would you take all trades?" Sure enough, I cracked open the safe and just gathered up the clutter of "Ooo that's neat" that I have a tendency to gather. Went and picked the SP89 up. The shop was happy, it's easier to move regular stuff. I got better prices than I was expecting, because people were just buying everything that shot bullets at the time, supply chain was weird, politics etc. It was a fun trade to make, especially for the "what is going on here?" of the random people in the shop when I came back. At the time, I thought eh, I'll get this and put a dumb "pistol brace" on it, because Form 1's are a pain in the ass..... Well you know a piece of why I was suddenly more motivated to SBR the PTR. I say it all the time, gun laws are dumb, but I will follow them. The people who won't, are the basis for all this panic about ARs and the 2nd... Gun Control doesn't work, assholes. Responsible gun owners, and regular people are why the "streets running with blood" isn't a thing. Here's a giant pic if you're interested. https://live.staticflickr.com/...746_ce99213d07_o.jpg It's not for sale, please don't ask or offer. That's rude, and against the rules here, but you knew that. Arc. ______________________________ "Like a bitter weed, I'm a bad seed"- Johnny Cash "I'm a loner, Dottie. hello darkness my old friend |
Sweet gun! I got lucky with my HK SP5 a couple of years ago. Fell into some money and happened by the gun store when they were putting it out. I left with it in a hurry and have really enjoyed the hell out of owning it. Awesome shooter suppressed with subs!

I might have spoken out of context and won't be getting an actual MP5 but the SP5,regular civilian version. Anyhow, that SP89 is uber-cool though. I just love that design with the short barrel. The MKE I have looks like that but I wish I had the real thing like yours. Congrats.

I like how you roll! I went with a PTR as a base too and it worked out very well with me. Like you, I found the Timney trigger pack to be a huge upgrade over the standard design. Since it's got a rail, I added a Trijicon MRO (green) optic and the Revolutionary Roller Lock (folding) stock to be a great set up for the proper height and cheek weld to accommodate it. I also swapped out the PTR grip module with the Magpul version, because I felt the angle change was an improvement. The suppressor is a Deadair Wolfman (in 7" configuration). With the slow progress of the courts, I sure hope suppressors are one day legal here. Arc. ______________________________ "Like a bitter weed, I'm a bad seed"- Johnny Cash "I'm a loner, Dottie. I know how you feel! Best of luck to you! I spent more than 60 years in the PRC (Peoples Republic of Californistan) and the last four plus years living in the FREE STATE of Arizona have been like heaven!!! Nice two(2) pieces.....green with envy over the SP89. When I first saw the welded on rail, I wondered if it was a PTR product.....which you verified a little bit later. I hope it is a good performer for you. I have dealt with Gilliebear in the past, and am duly impressed with his knowledge and skill. Now you just need a case or two of Winchester 9mm NATO ammo and time to get to the range. Enjoy!!
