Love my Scorpions but upset at CZ for the new versions being NOT backwards compatible for taking the original magazines.

Nice!! Is that the carbine with the faux suppressor? Or is it an SBR with a carbine handguard and a nested suppressor? I was under the impression they didn't allow suppressed weapons in steel challenge. If I'm wrong about that, it's motivation to get off my butt and finally get to a match. What version of the Timney do you have? Everyone on Reddit says to just go ahead and get the V2. The HBI trigger shoe and springs were a massive improvement, but I am curious about the Timney.
Yeah, a byproduct of their updated magazine catch. The lower of the 3+ is like a miniature Bren 2. The good news is, if you're handy, you can modify your existing EVO magazines to work in a 3+, or 3+ magazines to work in an EVO by shaving down the extra rimmed pocket on the left side of the magazine. All is not lost. My new handguard should be here in a few hours. I used Vibratite Hot Lock on the barrel nut, so... that should be entertaining to remove. Not looking forward to that. Going to hose it down with PB Blaster and then boil it, I'm not taking any chances. *Edit - Squirted a tiny bit of PB Blaster onto the threads around the barrel nut, and stood the gun upright to let it work down into the Hot Lock. Let it sit for an hour. Put a pipe wrench on it just to see, and it came off easily. I used plenty of Hot Lock (Read: Vibratite's version of Rocksett). No boiling, no torching required. I highly recommend if you guys need to remove a silica-based thread locker. This message has been edited. Smudge- Yep, it’s the faux suppressor model. I bought it when PSA was moving them at $749 with a rebate. I like to use the faux suppressor as a grip extension, lol. The Timney trigger is the V2 (newest one). Pricy, but oh so worth it compared to the not-good factory setup. Only took one match to realize the trigger is holding the carbine back from being really great. I expect it to get even better with a few thousand rounds down range.

That's a good deal! If you ever decide to pull the faux can, you already have the perfect config for a nested setup.
Lol! Does it get hot? I've never seen one of those in person, I'll bet the faux can works like a big heat sink.
Yeah, I hear great things about that trigger. I'm pretty happy with the HBI stuff so far. It was a massive improvement and really highlighted how shitty the stock trigger is. Installed the HBI handguard and the Ascalon Arms 125% recoil spring. All-in-all, easy changes. It recoils a fair bit smoother now. Shot it today, both with 115gr and 147gr and it was a lot less bouncy, didn't kick me as hard as it did before, so I'd say it's a worthwhile change for $20. When I reinstalled the suppressor, I was concerned about no barrel nut to seat it up against since it's just bare threads now what with it free floating, so I put about six or seven wraps of yellow plumber's tape on the threads before I threaded the can back on. If and when I decide to pull the can again, I'm using a strap wrench, because that sucker isn't moving. I've decided I don't really care for the Zhukov and I think I'm going to try a different stock. It's beefy and locks up solid, but the extendable portion has play in it, and if I run it out past the fully collapsed position, it wobbles. Not a fan of that. For a stock I use in exactly one position, I could trim some weight and bulk. Probably gonna try the B&T stock on the Scorpion adapter next. I've also decided I don't like either the stock safety on the left, or the wonky AK style safety the previous owner installed on the right side, so I'm going to try something else. Not sure what yet, but the nice thing is, I have options. May eventually do a short barrel and go nested, but that's... way down the road at this point. I don't think I'll ever want to shoot it unsuppressed again, so I could even go with a 3.5" barrel and just leave the handguard as-is with the same can and end up at a pretty compact size, folded up. ______________________________________________ "If the truth shall kill them, let them die.” Endeavoring to master the subtle art of the grapefruit spoon.

Hey, nice! Yeah, that one looks like it's been worked over. Had a chance to shoot it yet? If you need magazines, I highly recommend the Pmags. Supposedly the Palmetto mags are also really good. I need order some of them. Surprisingly, the ETS 40rd mags are also supposed to be good to go. I want to try a few of those also. ______________________________________________ "If the truth shall kill them, let them die.” Endeavoring to master the subtle art of the grapefruit spoon.

Well, a little more than a year later and I've sold mine to a friend with all the aftermarket shit I put on it. As of a few hours ago, I'm off the Scorpion train. It's either half of a suppressor or half of a Daniel Defense PCC factory SBR sitting in my wallet right now, I'm not quite sure which yet. Probably the can for now, but it's place in the safe will eventually get taken up by the DD. I think these days, it brings basically nothing to the table over most any other option on the market. To go further with the Scorpion or at least bring it up to modern competitive standards, one basically has to buy the Nexus EVO, and I think it's incredibly overpriced for what it is. It took me going down that road and finding out for myself, but I'm totally over the Scorpion now. I wanted a light, handy, soft-shooting suppressor host of a 9mm gun. It just isn't the answer for me. AR9 pattern with an FRT/SS is honestly probably the way to go. Parts are everywhere, you're into all kinds of options, great companies that actually support their stuff unlike CZ, which is apparently a handgun company and civilian long arms are a distant afterthought. I posted a thread about the Springfield Kuna when that was announced and I was excited about it for a bit, but I've seen some stuff about OOB issues and it recoils harder than the gun it's basically a copy of - the Stribog SP9A3, one of which I own. There's always the MP5 platform, but I would like to actually shoot whatever I get next in 2 gun matches and running a semi-auto MP5 clone fast just isn't high on my list of shit I want to try.
Oh, I eventually did pick up several of these and they are indeed good to go. I had no feeding issues in the Scorpion, they run like a top. The Stribog doesn't like them, but I think that's a feed ramp issue more than anything else. That gun is really finnicky about feeding. So if you're still on the Scorpion platform and you're looking to expand your magazine collection, the ETS 40's are worth a look, imo. ______________________________________________ "If the truth shall kill them, let them die.” Endeavoring to master the subtle art of the grapefruit spoon.

Same for me. I had mine for years (bought new in 15 or 16) and had turned it into an SBR'd K with the HBI kit. Despite the $$$ that went into it, I just never really cared for it. Everything seemed to need a little tweak to make it right and it still never got there. I went through the registry removal process and sold it on consignment at a local shop a couple of months back. I haven't missed it one bit.

Wow - same exact experience for me. SBR’d and HBI upgrades, $$$$, sold it just to make room in the safe. PCC’s don’t do anything for me.

I have both my SBR’d pistol and my 16” carbine. My carbine doesn’t get much use, but I’m still keeping my SBR. I’ve spent a lot on upgrades for it, and it doesn’t make sense to me to take a large loss on it just because it’s been bettered by newer guns. I lived with the recoil before many of the competitors existed, and can still live with it now. Besides, I like the way it looks compared to the blocky receiver guns like the Stribog, Kuna, and B&T.

exactly my situation. BUT if we actually get '0' transfer fees and selling used NFA stuff is a practical reality I'd get out in a heartbeat for a decent price. The mag inventory I can save via a couple of other guns that take them and the rest it matters not. The recoil bothers me not at all. The reliability issue still bug me. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”

Yeah, I think my biggest issue with shooting it is that for a little gun shooting a pistol round, the thing just jumps around too damned much. I have an easier time shooting short barreled 5.56's faster. It seems silly to me. Besides, I did everything to it short of really changing out the guts that make it what it is and it still felt clunky and cheap compared to the Stribog. That's what eventually did it in.
Well, I definitely wanted the room in the safe, but I wanted it for a better PCC. I really, really like shooting suppressed 9mm out of a little subgun type. The next thing I get, whether it's the DD or something else, I'm going to have set up for an FRT or SS. These guns are just too damned fun. Suppressed 9mm out of a little SBR on the clock and doing competition stages either in matches or just with friends in the desert is the most fun I've had shooting in years.
Well, you have easily the coolest PCC collection of anyone I know of, so your mindset on this makes a lot of sense. Lately, I've been trying to condense my collection of crap down from a lot of mid-tier stuff to just a few quality pieces. I have so much money tied up in a lot of ok stuff I don't use, from watches to knives to guitars to guns. With what all I have sitting unused, I could be into a much better set of NODs with my current set as a loaner, and a really quality 3 gun setup with one dedicated NV gun with a really solid illuminator and good cans and optics on everything. I've just reassessed my needs and decided to make some adjustments. I also didn't take a big loss on the sale, it went to a friend and for a fair price. Besides, he's hooked me up plenty with gear and stuff, so I don't feel bad about walking it to him.
Yeah, as far as the recoil goes, I think a lot of that is my min/max perfectionist stuff. You really can't have it all, and I know that. I'm an inveterate tinkerer, though, and if I can't get something running the way I think it ought to, I tend to lose interest. I eventually did get to a place where I accepted that it kind of just is what it is, but by then, I also decided I couldn't live with wondering if and when it would blow up on me. The idea of leaving it to my son and it deciding to blow out a left receiver panel into his face some day when I'm not around kind of clinched it for me - it had to go. ______________________________________________ "If the truth shall kill them, let them die.” Endeavoring to master the subtle art of the grapefruit spoon.

Dead on my experience. I BRIEFLY considered adding the Timney trigger and watching for bolt wear. My last range trip with it seemed to go well. No failures, accurate, the B&T stock was a lot more comfortable than the others I had tried. I got home to take it down to clean and noticed the stock adapter had dropped down past the bottom of the receiver. Apparently the stock detent had been bouncing in and out enough with the recoil that it allowed the adapter to slide past the detent. I had to use a dead blow hammer to drive the stock adapter back up into place and off the gun. I was so pissed at that point that I stripped everything off the gun and had all of the accessories listed for sale within an hour.

Same with me, it's that huge-ass bolt the Scorpion uses. I bought my Scorpion simply because it became apparent my waiting for Zenith clones to surface 8 years ago was all for naught, so I bought a EVO 3 Micro. It was fun for awhile, then the SP5 came out and I got one of those. Needless to say, a real HK roller-delay vs Scorpion blowback was not a contest, I never shot the Scorpion again. Ended up giving it to my son, but he rarely shoots it.
