I've got a friend who has finally gotten around to getting an AR-15- an M4-style 16" carbine. He's also going to get a second rifle at my recommendation. Probably an optics-ready 16" utilizing an LPVO.

I've recommended two cases for him: a discreet case for a single rifle and a transport case capable of holding two 16" ARs.

Of course he doesn't want to spend a ton, but I don't think he's on a tight budget, so we're looking for quality cases.

All suggestions welcome. Thanks.

If he reasonably thinks he'd like to fly with them some time, I give this one my endorsement as a general transport case. Very tough, lockable, and the wheels and drag handle are convenient.

I have the four rifle version, which is just deeper and has a foam divider. I got it for flying, but has ended up becoming my range case as well. The wheels make a big difference.

I looked at probably 10 different ones at the local gun stores and ordered a few from reputable on-line stores. Was not 100% satisfied

Ended up with Savior Equipment from Amazon. Really nice and reasonably priced. They have a bunch of different flavors and sizes. The 42" Urban Double holds My 18" AR + CZ 455 rifle and a bunch of equipment nicely. Also picked up a 30" Coffin; more compact and much lower profile, but I can squeeze my M4 and KSG shotgun in it. (I know Amazon has a lot of crap, but seriously these are nice, definitely better than the ones I tried from PSA or Midway)

I have a hard side guitar case. Enough for one rifle, (Colt SOCOM, ACOG, 3 PMAGS) pistols (SIG P226 with 3 20 round mags and misc. items for both), using "cutout foam".

I also have a back back for a folder/SBR. It's tight, but it works. "Small red dot" mags and essentials.

And a medium case (that is less discreet, as it looks like a gun case) for a SCAR 17, and 1/2 dozen 20 round mags)

(I have a few miscellaneous bags/cases and such, with ammo, parts, cleaning and other supplies, knowing that I never will know what I will need, if I will need to travel, or "shelter in place", so the excess of today, is the options of tomorrow.)

Some are more discreet, some are more practical.

Options, cuz I never know what I will need and what I will be facing.
Rather take more that needed, and jettison what I don't, than have a "plan" that fails on the "minute after".

When it's all said and done, with the lemmings and their faces glued to their smart phones, one could walk down the street dragging a belt fed weapon, unnoticed...

In the end, I hope my great grandchildren will look back and laugh at what a "worry wart grandpa was", than to be in the day, where I realize I'll never have those great grandchildren...

One of my favorite companies, they make a couple of applications that might work. No hard sided cases though.

I have Voodoo Tactical 2 rifle bag for my ARs and a Condor 2 rifle bag for my 7.62 guns.

The Condor is the nicer bag. Either is fine, but the Condor is heavier fabric, and just seems a bit better made.

Mine is similar to this one.

As a hard-side goes, Harbor Freight offers a Pelican 1750 knockoff for $170 or so. One of my friends has one; it does seem well built.
It may be Chinese-made, I'm not sure.

God bless America.

I just bought the Saviour 2 rifle case from Amazon and for the money it's tough to beat. I don't know how it'll hold up over time but it seems very well made.

I have been happy with my basic Blackhawk case. It has MOLLE webbing inside and comes with two hook and loop straps, so you can secure the rifle from just flopping around.

Mine is older, but this current model is the closest to it:

Mine only has two rows of MOLLE, but they are wider.

The AR I won from Q came in a Drago case. Carried both of my 16" rifles no problem & would probably accommodate a 18 or 20" but probably not much more than that

The Apache 9800 (and other sizes of Apache cases) are made in China as per the hanging tag. These were $99 during the Black Friday sales at Harbor Freight and $109 during the post-Christmas sales, so they can be purchased for much less if you time the sales. For my low speed, high drag tactical pig and varmint hunting operations these more than adequately protect the rifles and equipment we use. There are several YTube videos with reviews and demonstrating how to stabilize the pull-out foam so it doesn't fall apart after some use.

For Made-In-America products, both SKB and Pelican make an outstanding product with commensurate pricing.

Yes, they do, and I have one of these, but to fit a 16" AR-15, the rifle's upper and lower must be separated.

I neglected to mention that the discreet case should allow assembled storage of the rifle.

Faced with the same requirements as your buddy, I bought one of these: UTG Alpha Battle Carrier Sling Pack 30-Inch Multi-Firearm Case.

Holds two rifles, assembled. Has outside pockets for magazines and other cruft. Multiple handles and a padded sling. Seems well made. (Though mine hasn't seen much use, so I can't speak to durability.) The electric blue one, in particular, doesn't look much like a rifle case. Economical. Rates 4.7 out of 5 stars on Amazon with 1206 ratings.

For soft-sided, I have a Midway USA 3-gun case and it's been good. It's had 2 ARs in it much more frequently than an AR and a shotty.

For hard sided (i.e. airplanes), I have both the Pelican 1750 and Pelican IM3300. Boy have those prices gotten stupid since I bought mine for $199 to $209 in 2014. It looks like their newer vault line is more budget friendly.

For a single AR I use this one. I bought 4 of them a few years ago when Midway had them on sale and gave one to a buddy. I'm sure they're available other places if Midway is on your buddy's shit list now. They've been great cases. It comes in 3 sizes; I have the 40" and it fits a 16" barreled AR just right. It is chinese made though.

The only case I have for 2 ARs is from Blackhawk. It's got a 3-mag pouch velcro'd into the outer pocket. It's not a great case as there are only 2 velcro straps in the main compartment, so it doesn't hold them very securely.

Been very happy with my American Mountain Supply 36" case. Have had it for quite some time now. Don't remember exactly what I paid for it but I want to say it was around $100 or so. Has held up very well and is discreet enough I feel.
