I got a Streamlight for this build and it just took up way too much space leaving me no good place for my hand. I tried it in all positions and just couldn't get it right. So I got an Aero ATLAS S-ONE M-LOK 10.3" handguard. The picatinny doesn’t go all the way at the top giving me a good place for my hand using thumb at top and the light and tape switch can be on the right side where I need it. Pics soon.

I'm a big fan of the Atlas S-One. It has a solid mounting solution that doesn't turn the gun into a tuning fork, and it's slim and light but still provides ample clearance for the gas block and tube. It gives you rails where you want them and not where you don't, so your hands don't get cheese-grated and you don't have to add extra weight and girth with rail covers. If you do need more rail, it's as simple as adding M-Lock segments. It's one of the most comfortable handguards I've used on an AR, and while not exactly cheap it's not outrageously overpriced, either.

I've noticed that other companies like Springfield and Ruger have started to emulate the basic tenants of the design on some of their own guns, so clearly Aero was onto something.

While I was replacing the gas block and barrel nut, I also replaced the end plate with a BCM QD mount end plate. I think this one is complete and I like it.

That’s a Naked Slingster from Ferro Concepts. I’ll probably get a wider regular Slingster in the future.

Agreed. The S One is really well designed. I feel it is the best choice for me on a carbine length.

This was my first attempt at tearing an upper down and replacing parts. 3 shims on the barrel nut is ok, correct?

I don't remember ever needing to use the shims, but it's been a while since I've installed that particular barrel nut. I don't see why using three would be a problem.

While sighting this gun in I noticed that the ejection direction changed. It used to eject directly at 3:00 with the FSB. Now that it has the LPGB, it ejects at 4:00. Everything seems to be working as it should. No failures.

I just got back from the range with it. It runs great.

I got a replacement stock today. It doesn't rattle on the buffer tube.

It's a F.A.B. Defense Core.

I also like how it hangs on the sling much better with the QD on the stock rather than on the end plate.

I think my AR came with the same rattley stock as yours. Just replaced it with a Magpul MOE SL stock, actually looks similar to your new one. This one doesn't rattle eather.

I did hear the MOE SL is tighter.

Out of the box was almost to tight, has a flat straight spring inside. I put a little dab of grease on the spring and it slides easier now.

Let's get me a light for this thing next. I'm thinking of a Streamlight Rail Mount 2.

If you get that M Lok on it, this is the light you might be interested in, I love Mine.

M Lok Light

I may try that. I already purchased a Streamlight ProTac Rail Mount HL-X but it’s completely in the way no matter where I put it. I’m probably going to remove it.

I have mine mounted on the side where my thumb falls naturally on the switch. I like that I do not need an extra pressure pad which they do offer. My brother did not even notice the light at first it blends right in and the neatest thing of all is rechargeable with a magnetic plug.

I ordered an ML40 and an ML40S to try. Thanks for the tip. The 10% coupon in the video helped, too.

The Votatu lights came in today. They fit this SBR much better. The Streamlight is a bit brighter and a bit whiter light but it’s just completely in the way on this gun. The Votatu also comes with a proper M-LOK mount for the pressure switch without sticky tape.

I am so glad you like them, I know I liked mine so much I was willing to recommend it. I also ordered another one for another build. I think what I like the best about them is not just how it looks on the rifle but the ergonomics too. Alot of lights are just hanging there waiting to hang up on something. Also rechargeable and the magnetic connection is hard to beat.

Dammit. Since I don't have an AR anymore, now I'm getting tempted to build an 11.5" one...uuuugh.

You may as well. If you don’t, P220 Smudge will send you links until you give in. Big Grin

Looking good Mark! I think it looks better with the new rail. I have a New Year's resolution to finish my SBR build. The engraved lower has been sitting in my safe for years....

I have a few SIGs.
