Fighting the good fight |
If the door still closes, it fits. Better, but you still have a ton of wasted space, both in the left side long gun area as well as above that top shelf. Putting the SBR next to your other AR, with the barrel leaning against the left wall and the buttstock on the floor where the 30 round AR magazine is, would free up the entire top shelf and all that unused open space above it. Then you could quintuple the amount of ammo or other valuables stacked in there by using that top shelf, without even having to rearrange anything. And you'd still have a bunch more room for additional long guns in that section, even with the SBR down there too.

Get a suppressor on that SBR, that will give you the length you need. ___________________________________________ Life Member NRA & Washington Arms Collectors Mistake not my current state of joshing gentle peevishness for the awesome and terrible majesty of the towering seas of ire that are themselves the milquetoast shallows fringing my vast oceans of wrath. Prepared for the Worst, Providing the Best |
Man, I wish my safe had that much room in it. Mine are stuffed in mine like cordwood. It's literally the biggest safe I could fit in the space I had available (not very big), and I still can't get everything into it. I made cardboard cutouts to hold the barrels of the longer guns in place, and have bungee straps hooked across the middle to strap in the shorter guns and keep them from falling over. Safe organization really makes a guy hate ARs, with all those knobby bits sticking out everywhere, and they also typically don't like to balance upright on the stock. I'll try to get a picture at some point, but right now I'm trapped with a puppy sleeping on my lap . Were I in your situation, I'd probably prop that SBR up in the back corner of the rifle section there at the bottom, or if you don't want to do that put some hooks or a small shelf at the very top and put it up there, that way you get your shelf back. Handguns need their own place to live, too! Another option would be hanging it off the inside of the door with Velcro or some other means...kind of a quick-access, "open the door and go" type setup.

I have my AR pistol sitting on the back ledge of the barrel rack. Works perfect for me. SIG556 Classic P220 Carry SAS Gen 2 SAO SP2022 9mm German Triple Serial P938 SAS P365 FDE Psalm 118:24 "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it"

I re arranged the safe last summer using the orange rifle rods that have been recommended. It’s worked well for my sbr’s. "Attack life, it's going to kill you anyway." Steve McQueen...

Rifle Rods are definitely worth the time and investment. Man, on a side note, I need to step up my safe game. Lighting, and door organizers, and pistol racks.... A shelf of nothing but threaded barrels and suppressors also needs to happen. ______________________________________________ Carthago delenda est

Couldn’t afford to do it without an FFL and SOT my friend.

I put spare cases of ammo under my SBR’s to adjust the height so they fit the racks in the safe … I don’t have a picture of it and I just got my right knee replaced so I can’t do stairs well for another few weeks, so you’ll just have to use your imagination! ^^This!^^ Getting rid of those factory slots and holders is a godsend. No more removing 6 long guns just to get to 1. I didn’t need the velcro on top because the hook portion on the rod grabs the lining of the safe pretty well. -------- After the game, the King and the pawn go into the same box.

Toss the ammo on the bottom shelves in an ammo can. Put the ammo can on the bottom of the safe, put your SBR on top of the ammo can, it should be high enough so the barrel is in the rack. ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. The rifle rods and safe organizers came in today. This is much better and it allows for other SBRs to be included in the future. Gun Storage Solutions also sent me a free Back-Under Handgun Hanger sample to try out. Thanks for all the tips. I’m probably going to move the cleaning supplies out of the safe and put some ammo cans in their place. 9mm & 5.56. I also don't need to keep the gun parts in the safe. It's a work in progress.
