Mars didn't present this as any sort of challenge, but his performance here...

...prompted me to see how I could perform in similar circumstances.

Let's just say my first two attempts aren't even close to what he achieved. My fourteen shots had a seven inch dispersion at 50m. My sight radius is a bit shorter (mid-length FSB), but that's the only real difference. I intend to try again. I have a history of shooting irons more than the average tactical-focus AR shooter (I think), but certainly haven't done as much lately, and maybe never for accuracy across so many shots.

I am curious how other folks perform in these circumstances.

I shot match for many, many years as a boy until I went to college. I have a NM Gaarand built in 1962 that I will bring out on occasion. There ain't no benching that at 250 meters for real competition. Got my first trophy at the MCLB in Albany, GA at 15 against professionals. Even got congratulated by the colonel I bested.

And the members that come to the GA Sig Shoots know that my target is no exaggeration.

50 yards might as well be point blank. I zeroed the rifle with the first six rounds off the sled, then just stood and emptied the mag to see if the barrel was any good. You can see my breathing in the target.

I have had many members watch me win bets shooting a 8" steel at 100yards in the rain with my Detective special.

This is the AR that I shot that group with. Just a simple A1 Dissipator with blank rear sights that I drilled myself.

It would be a pitiful group with my Garand.

I don't shoot enough anymore to best my brother.
He uses my range WAAAY more often than I do.
My revolvers are screaming for attention.
But we used to take first and second. Competing against each other.
Everyone else, weren't competition... Smile

That level of performance is incredible. I'll be happy to knock my group down to five inches or so. Am I correct in saying the group in your image was about 1.5"?

Somewhere about that. I was just messing around.

I don't really shoot much for accuracy other than ensuring I hit the steel anymore. It's just too expensive to miss. I got over the competition mentality many years ago.

I was just seeing how that new barrel/bolt was performing in my toy. I guess I put it together properly.

My garand would have put every bullet through the same hole when I was 15 at that range. Now I'm 58, I don't stand with the M1.

I see all y'alls groups and admire them with thoughts of good job guys.

OK mine from yesterday.
This is 15 rounds, standing, 50 yards.
My first target was well, downright embarrassing.

My 1990 PWA Commando, A1.

Had to get used to my trigger again.
