JonDaddy82My 2024 Legion Memorial Run & Gun Video
Did my first 10k Run & Gun event in September, totally kicked my ass. Had a great time doing it, having a buddy was key. Overall a very neat event and I got to shoot a 240 which was awesome. Put together a decent video chronicling my shit show

fritzOutstanding.
This is what going outside of your comfort zone is all about. Expand your boundaries, learn from challenges, improve your capabilities.
This is orders of magnitude beyond "look at my 5-round group at 50 yards from a bench rest"....
Well done.

JonDaddy82I was happy with it, especially for being over 40.

92fstechThat's awesome! I'd love to do something like that. Do most people actually run that whole thing with all that gear, or is it more of a ruck march for most people? Like you I'll be over 40 here in two months, and while I'm both a casual (I run every day, but not competitively) runner and a backpacker, I don't usually combine the two lol!
How hard is it to get involved in something like that, and is it expensive? Any smaller, more local events out there to kind of work your way up? The combination of the weight, the miles, the terrain, the mental games, and the shooting looks like an absolutely lovely and miserable time

!
What was your loadout? I assume you had to carry all your water and ammo for the whole thing. Any gear issues (I heard one of you say you knocked your optic and had to tap out on a stage)? Lessons learned/recommendations?

Only the young and young enlisted were actually running. Most others were jogging or a brisk walking pace.

Fairly easy to get involved! Use the internet and Facebook combined with Practiscore to find events within driving distance. Most entrance fees are under $300. The rest of the cost is whatever you spent on your gear.

We went stupid. Full plate carriers and battle belts when the smarter people were wearing shorts, running shoes, and chest rigs. We wanted it to be as hard as possible the first time so we can say we did it on hard mode. Realistically a chest rig and backpack/bladder with a gun belt/rig is all you need. I had to carry about 2L of water and 400 rounds of ammunition. My rig was a Defensive Mechanisms MEPC plate carrier with their rear pack/bladder carrier and battle belt. 7 rifle mags, 4-5 pistol mags, snacks, etc. Anything that you may need for the entire day needs to be on you basically. Good luck getting into it! It's a pretty cool fraternity once you've completed a big one.
