We understand ammunition is limited and you may not want to dig deep into your stash for a class. But you still should be training. If the round count listed is outside your budget, contact us. We can adjust your experience during the class so you are not shooting as many rounds, but still get valuable repetitions and training. We will work with you. Contact us to discuss.

OpSpec Training returns to Reading, Pennsylvania offering our flagship Practical Fundamentals class on May 15 & 16, 2021. This class has been very popular with all pistol shooters including law enforcement and active military.

Along with making a deposit or paying for the class in full, ensure you register for the course. Learn more about the Practical Fundamentals class right here.

READ THE CLASS TESTIMONIALS

This course teaches the techniques and philosophy of what OpSpec Training believes a shooter needs to improve to their full potential. This is not a beginning handgun course.

Practical Fundamentals (Pistol) may be repeated several times to further one’s understanding of the concepts involved. OpSpec Training instructional staff include a collaboration of custom gunsmiths, competitive shooting, and law enforcement specialists who have created a training environment and curriculum that is ‘process’ oriented rather than ‘goal’ oriented.

The class fee is $450

For complete details on the above class, click here.

Register for the class at the OpSpec Training website.

Prerequisites
This is not a basic class. At minimum, students should have taken a basic handgun safety course and have experience with their firearm and gear. We expect students to have experience shooting on a line in a safe manner, including loading, reloading and drawing/shooting from the holster. Shooters with IDPA, USPSA, NRA Action Pistol, 3-Gun, law enforcement and military experience meet the program prerequisites.

Instructors*: Jerry Jones and HR Hawkins

When: May 15 & 16, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day

Class size: Minimum of 12 students, but the overall enrollment is limited.

Tuition: $450

Range Fees: TBD

Ammunition: About 750 to 850 rounds.

Important Links and Information

* Instructors listed for specific programs have committed to teach the class on those dates. Although we do not anticipate changes, travel delays, family emergencies or illness may result in instructor substitutions.

Location
Muhlenberg Recreation Area
River Road
Reading, Pennsylvania

Where to Stay
We suggest selecting a hotel near the Reading Regional Airport. The range is within four miles of the regional airport.

As with all of our classes, we suggest you book your room early so it is on hold.

Food at Lunch Break
To ensure you get the most “bang for your buck” we try to keep lunch breaks as short as possible (one hour). If you have the ability to bring your lunch, we you may do so. Information concerning lunch options will be provided to students at the class registration. There is a Subway located within 2 miles of the range.

Evil exists. You can not negotiate with, bribe or placate evil. You're not going to be able to have it sit down with Dr. Phil for an anger management session either.

Steve, I think I'd like to send my boys to the class, and possibly take it again followed by Applied in Sep. The big concern is whether ammo will be available by then. Do you guys have a source that if we can't get sufficient ammo we can buy through you guys? Thanks.

It's difficult to say anything concerning ammo at this point. I can say that we are working on trying to ensure all students have access to ammo for use during classes.

As I understand it, many sources are allowing you to preorder ammo, so I would suggest doing that now as there is plenty of time available before the class.

Hi Steve,

Related question to what Rob asked. Really want to take the class on 5/15-16, but, if ammo or components don't become slightly more available, I'm reluctant to shoot 1k out of my stash.

How late do you foresee registration for the class being open? I'm trying to hold off in the hopes of getting more components or scoring some boxes of ammo in the next 3-4 months. I don't want to register now and then have to bail on the class for lack of ammo.

But if you guys can source ammo for students, that's even better.

Thanks!

Our attempts to find a dependable source of ammo at reasonable prices continue. No updates on that front.

Right now, there is plenty of room in the class. We are reluctant to provide more information since some students have been disappointed in the past when we told them there was room four four, and then those slots were taken two days later. The ammo situation makes that less likely, but who knows.

There is space available. I do not publish the number of spaces available for a couple of reasons.

First, that number can (and has) drastically changed overnight.
Second, the space available could be reduced due to staff instructor availability and/or a change in venue.

OK. Planning on bringing a group, but I don't want to get left with an odd person out. I guess I'll cross that bridge if I get to it.

If someone wants to bring a group of four, and we only have three spots left, we'll make that work to get the fourth in. Your group is an example of why I prefer not to release availability. In one shot, you might fill the class depending on the group size. Our suggestion has always been if you're interested and can commit to the dates, book the class.

There are other factors too ... like sometimes people drop out and more space becomes available.

OK booked. A while back I seem to remember Jerry saying something about a loyalty discount if you've already taken a number of classes. Is that still a thing?

Thanks for asking, but since I've been around I'm not familiar with any discounts. We do offer a program for class hosts, where for their efforts to put the class together, take lead with the venue and promote the class in their region, tuition is waived for them.
