Love the round out of my Blackhawk that was handed down to me. Not as punishing as the 44 though quite a lot more thump vs my 357’s. For some reason this particular example has always shot quite accurately in my hands hence partially why it found its way to me in the end.

There is a guy on YT, plowboysghost who has a lot of videos on the 41 Mag and the 45 Colt. I know he loves the 45 Colt, but he does stuff with the 41 Mag too.

So it's essentially a 44mag minus 10-15%. Full power loads in a 4 5/8 Blackhawk are still not pleasant, but manageable.

I reload, therefore like the 44 more. Better availability & selection of bullets/ammo.

I have S&W 57 & 58. I really like the 58 (4" fixed sight N frame) with lead semi wadcutters and 7.5gr Unique... sort of a "41 special" or close to its suggested original intent of being a .41 police caliber- not a magnum.

Getting the most out of one requires reloading IMHO. The difficulty in finding range fodder is real.

I own em and like up, but always thought of it as the gun without a platform. Sort of since everything it comes in can be had in .44 and .45, it's either wasted space (potential) or the gun is bigger than it needs to be.

Perhaps the Freedom Arms 97 is the perfect sized gun for it.
(which I almost bought, but went with a .45 colt instead, sort of proving my own first argument? lol)

If you’re thinking you’ll split the difference between .357 and .44, you really won’t. The difference between .44 and .41 recoil is too slight to tell, other than side by side, maybe.

That was what I was hoping for. Thanks for letting me know. I think I’ve about talked myself into just finding some light 44 mags or a Keith/ Taffin style stouter 44 special load.
