Probably not the best place to come with a quandary like this since y'all are a bunch of enablers. Ran across a Ruger GP100 Match Champion in 10mm for a really good price the other day. Kept the wallet in my pocket but still keep thinking about getting it.

Practicality wise I have absolutely no practical reason for it. I've got a 3" GP100 in 10mm which makes for a great carry gun, definitely don't want the longer grip and barrel for that. I've got a Smith 610 Mountain Gun for a, "Full sized" 10mm revolver. At least that one I can justify as being more economical practice for shooting big bore N-Frames than a .44 Magnum. And I have several Smith 686's in .357 which are very similar in power level to the 10mm.

About the only weak justification in practicality that I've come up for with it is that I already have moonclips for a 10mm GP100...

I passed the “needs” “justification” off ramp many, many miles backs. So if you would like my justification.

You haven't exploited the versatility of a 10 mm revolver to help you justify the purchase of another one - don't forget that you can shoot the less expensive, easier to find, .40 S&W out of those guns. How's that for justification?

I use mine, only with .40 S&W, for IDPA after retiring my Smith 646. I found that the 646 moon clips also fit the Ruger MC 10 mm

Let me be one of the first to tell you, don’t come in here with that negative attitude, young man.
“No practical need”?!
You march right back up there and buy that Ruger.
And you apologize to that gun store owner do not getting it the first time.
There is no excuse for that behavior.
Smh. Putting your wallet away in a gun store. What’s with these kids today?!

I have several GP100s. 6 and seven shot 357s with various barrel lengths. Even a 10 shot 22LR.
I’d like to have one in 10mm, just because.

Mere enablers? Bwaahahahaha...

You have a 3" GP100 in 10mm. The Match Champion is even more of a good thing.

Now start shopping for one of the Lipsey's exclusive 5" blued GP100s in 10mm so you have the set. (I've thoroughly enjoyed the .44 Special and the .327 Mag.)

Go for it! Fantastic platform with a top performance round. Plus at least here in Texas 10mm ammo has been dropping in price.

A friend of mine has a Match Champion in .357. I've shot it. Honestly, I prefer the way the regular rubber factory grips fill the hand better than those wood ones. It is a sweet looking gun, though...and if you want it, you want it. There's nothing wrong with that.

You want a guy who just bought a pistol chambered in 5.7 to tell you that another 10mm isn't practical? Ha!

I am in the same camp as cslinger need or justification set sail ages ago. Regarding 10 mm as an economical alternative to heavier more costly big frame calibers, take the money spent on the next 10mm and get a set up for reloading. Cast bullet 44 mag loads become cheaper to make 50 rounds than buying a box of factory 9 mm

A Ruger revolver chambered in 10mm, there is no justification needed. You find, you buy, you enjoy.

I was pretty fortunate a few months back, to get both a GP100 Match Champion .357 and a S&W 686 .357-both 4" barrels, for less than $1k for both. They were both used but barely and I actually like the GP100 best of the two. The gripping angle is really nice with the wood grip and the action is smoother, let alone I like the cylinder release of Rugers more so than other revolver brands.
