sounds familiar. i looked it up. cdc says acetone on its own is ok. exposure to skin doesn't cause cancer but they do not know about prolonged inhalation, though i don't see how anyone could inhale it for more than a second

i think the stuff about cancer causing was for a product or two that contained acetone, maybe certain nail polish removers, not acetone itself though i do not think

I use lots of Ed's Red as a solvent and cleaner/bore cleaner. It contains some acetone and I haven't observed any issues with it. I mix it up a gallon at a time
