Pre, I'll disagree with you slightly. I think the semi-critical dimension is from backstrap to front of trigger, so his lining up the rear of the pistols is a pretty good start. However, the shape of the backstrap also comes into play, and while the layered pictures shows a large difference in reach to the trigger, in reality it is only a slightly longer reach. You can shoot both pistols DA with either the pad of your finger or using the finger joint. MP

I understand. All factors in its a very minor difference afaiac. Sitting at home on the internet maybe, during live fire absolutely nothing. Just not worth spending any time on. What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

Things worked out extremely well (without yet having taken the pistol to the range). I sent my Sub back to Sphinx under warranty using their issued shipping label (their cost) and RMA details taken from their inquiry to me of the problem. I shipped on a Tuesday and received the pistol back today, the following Tuesday. They kept me updated at all times as to status. The fix was a polishing of the feed ramp and replacing the the slide lock lever (the latter was probably the issue, if I were to guess). My next time at the range, and I'll try to steal a couple of hours before the weekend, will consist of firing various ball and JHP rounds through the Sub. Sphinx/Kriss was incredibly attentive and courteous beginning with my initial contact through the entire short process. MP

Good to hear. I'd agree with you about the lever. Both of my Sphinx feed ramps are polished like a mirror straight from the factory. Look forward to the range report. Hello Guys I am a member here who has a Sphinx sub with the same problems. Here is a post from another forum that I and a member of that forum have the same lockup with ammo. Update on this SPHINX. Out to the range today to test this gun with carry ammo. I shot 100 rounds on the first trip on this trip I fired fifty rounds Winchester and fifty of Perfecta FMJ ammo, all worked no hang ups. Loaded one mag with Speer Gold Dot 147 Gr. GDHP. Installed the mag pressed the slide release and the slide did not close all the way it was open about 1/8". I was unable to open or close the slide. I had a shoulder replacement had to get the range owner to pull the slide back for me. Did not use this ammo until I find out if it will work in this gun. At home I cleaned the gun and looked for other ammo I had to see if It was going to do the same thing. I found a box of Federal 124Gr. Hydra-Shok loaded the mag the same as before the round loaded and the slide closed all the way this time but I was unable to pull the slide back to unload the round. I had to press on the ejector to release the round hold the slide back and use a cleaning rod to push the round out of the barrel. I then got one round of range ammo and it worked in the gun the slide closed and I was able to pull it back to remove the round. Will have to see if other ammo will work and also call Kriss to see what they say.

So far as I know, the Subcompact is chambered only for 9mm. Since the P239 is also chambered for .40S&W, I suspect the Subcompact's slide might be narrower than the P239's. Is that correct? Serious about crackers

I had a similar issue with Cor-Bon JHP 124(?) gr. +P two times out of three tries. When I got home, I checked the OAL of the Cor-Bon against Blaser Brass ball, and Fed HST and Win. Ranger T-Series and found the Cor-Bon to be very much smaller in OAL than the other three. The other three rounds were all nearly the same length and fed well. That's why I and so many others try various ammunition as some just don't feed well in some pistols. I have since learned that Kriss does not highly endorse Winchester for the Sub and maybe others, yet it ran perfectly through my Sub. The Ranger T-Series is great, but just so hard to get as a civilian as Win. markets it as a police round, and some suppliers will not sell to civilians. It is perfectly legal to own, but difficult to buy. MP

I just measured both slides with my non-precision dial calipers and got : CORRECTED MEASUREMENTS SIG P239 9mm SAS Gen 2 at 1.02" and the Sphinx Sub at 1.03... the same within my calipers accuracy. The SIG .40 and the 9mm are not exactly the same size as they take different holsters, and I believe the slide on the .40 is slightly wider. MPThis message has been edited. I got an inch, even, for just the slide. That doesn't include controls. What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

Pre's measurement is correct. I misread my calipers and corrected my earlier post. SIG = 1.02" and Sphinx Sub at 1.03" Sorry for the misread and mispost. Pre, thanks for the catch. MP

Hello Guys Testing the ammo I have in the Sphinx. Here is an update on this Sphinx Received an e-mail today for returning my gun to Sphinx. They will send me an RMA to send it in. Before I send it I will do one more test at the range. This is what I did today. Took the gun apart took the barrel out and tried three different brands of ammo in the chamber. The first one I used was Perfecta 115 grs FMJ, this ammo works in this gun I put over 100 rounds thru it. It goes in the chamber and comes out easy. The second one I put in Federal 124 gr. Hydra-Shok this round went in but not as deep as the first I pressed on the round and it got stuck in the chamber had to push it out with a cleaning rod. This was the round that I had trouble with releasing the slide to chamber it and was unable to pull the slide back. The last one Is a box of Hornady Critical defense115gr. FTX I bought today, this went in like the Perfecta at the right dept. and did no stick in the chamber. Will get to the range to see if this works. If it does work I will not have to send this gun in, I will just have to use the brands that it likes. Here is a list of ammo that went in and the ones that did not........... Ammo that chambers....... Perfecta115gr. FMJ TulAmmo Brass Max115 gr.FMJ Hornady Critical Defense 115gr FTX Ammo that does not chamber....... Speer Gold Dot147 gr. GDHP Federal 124 gr. Hydra-Shok Magtech 92.6 gr. SCHP

Range report after Kriss/Sphinx polished the feed ramp and replaced the slide lock lever on my Subcompact: There is no question in my mind that the slide lock lever was the cause of my earlier issue of the slide not going into full battery at times. From when I purchased the pistol I could not release the slide by using the lever w/o an absurd amount of effort using two thumbs. I reverted to only sling-shotting it. Now, after Kriss/Sphinx replaced the slide lock/release lever, it operates at would be expected, firm, but one thumb releases. I ran a bunch of rounds of Blaser Brass without issue, as well as Federal HST 147 gr. +P, Win. Ranger T-Series 124 gr. +P, and Win. Ranger T-Series 147 gr. (not +P). I had one double feed (actually a failure to extract or eject before the slide fed another round) with the Win 147 (not +P) within 25 rounds, so I stopped shooting that load. All other rounds fed perfectly, and the slide returned to battery every time. I’ll purchase and run another 150 rounds of the Federal HST 147 +P. If faultless again, I’ll switch from my P239 SAS Gen 2 to the Sub for carry with this round. I will GUESS that the Sphinx’s tighter tolerances than my SIGs makes it more ammunition sensitive, and again, I was told Kriss did not recommend Win. ammunition. I am still amazed at how fast the Sphinx gets back onto target, I shot at least 75 quite fast rounds using flash sighting, and all were very satisfactory hits. MP
