Glock Gen 5 slide dimensions and holster fit Login/Join

I like the idea of the Glock 45 with its G19 sized slide on a G17 frame. I've seen some references on some sites that Gen 5 slides are a little wider than their Gen 4 versions. True? Others say they are the same. I have a number of Leather/Kydex hybrid holsters for my 5 Glocks. They fit pretty tight with my Gen 3 and 4 Glocks.

Whats anyone's Gen 5 experience? Will a Gen 5 slide pretty much fit a holster that will accomodate a Gen 1-4 gun?

My experience - multiple G19 Gen 4s and one G45.

Detroit Holsters "8-mile" IWB (2 different holsters, one with XC1 and without light) - Fit all just fine

Bravo Company OWB Holster w/XC1 - Fit all just fine

Red River Tactical IWB w/XC1 - Fit all just fine.

I think any quality Kydex w/adjustment screw will fit fine, as you can loose / tighten up the holster fit - however none of the 4 holsters above needed any change at all.

Honestly I think it helps them sell more holsters and it might be more particular with leather.

It's not the slide width. Its the forward dust cover portion of the frame (where the light rail is located). The dimensions are slightly different.

In my experience, Gen 5s work in 99% of Gen 1-4 holsters. The ones I've seen that are overly tight tend to be very tightly molded kydex with an enclosed muzzle, without adjustable retention.

It's not a huge concern.

All my Glock holsters are Comp Tacs. They do have adjustment screws. I've never messed with those. I suppose there is nothing to be concerned about then.

How do you like your G45? I think when I can find one, I will buy one. Reviews are very favorable.

It is great; the extra grip really gives you more leverage when shooting the pistol compared to a G19 - my pinky fits on a G19 but with the G45 grip, I get a lot more purchase on the pistol. Everyone clamors about a longer slide but for me 4"-ish barrel compact pistol is fine for what I want to do.

I carry my G19 but have carried the G45 without difficulty as well. When the panic subsides I'll likely pick up a second G45 and a couple of Gen 5 G19s (not that I have any issue with the Gen 4s).

My G19 Gen 5 fits my RGrizzle "Country Boy" just fine. I bought it used some time ago for my G23 Gen 3.

I have JM Custom Kydex holsters, and they are molded to fit Gen 3-5. It just depends on how the maker shapes them.
G-Code is a company that told me that I should buy a Gen specific holster when I asked if I can put a Gen4 into a Gen 5 holster. They said it would fit, but the fittment would not be ideal.

One thing to remember is that the Gen5 have ambi slide stops, so the holster has to make room for that little tab on the outboard side.

I think there is also issues with some holsters because of the slide lock on the gen 5 guns being on both sides of the frame.

^^ same^^ My own experience with G5 Glocks & width challenges stem from the ambi slide stop / release. Leather rigs seem to fit & accommodate it where as poly holsterS have an issue..
