Fair enough but we have or had a better mechanical solution. A former employee had a Steyr pistol. It actually had a micro integrated lockout mechanism. He just had the key on his keychain in his pocket. Fast and effective and not subject to problems like dirty fingers, wet hands, new glasses etc. that seem to plague biometrics and facial scanners.

I can see departments like NYPD, Portland, San Francisco, etc. adopting this though.

I see way too many failures of ALL things electronic, especially if powered by batteries. For something my life or the lives of family members may depend on? Not a chance!
