Can't decide between my P320 and my P229. Both have been flawless. The old-school P229 is cooler, and I used it to stop an in-progress bank robbery when I was fresh out of the academy, so that adds some sentimental history to that one (no shots fired, thankfully).
The P320 is a little more practical due to the modularity, I've had more rounds through it, and passed my instructor quals with it. Both guns have been supurbly reliable and are very shootable. If I absolutely have to pick one I'd say the edge goes to the P320 just due to the practicality of the modular design, but it's very close. I still love that P229.
From the late 1970's to my retirement in 2008, I relied upon more personally owned-department approved duty weapons that I can keep track of, but my favorite was the Nighthawk Custom GRPII (Commander sized 1911) .45 ACP that was what I carried for the last 18 months of my career. The department issued USP .45 ACPs that had a slightly larger magazine capacity (12 vs 8), but I never felt handicapped. I guess "what goes around comes around", as I carried a Series 70, Colt 1911 .45 as my duty weapon in 1977.

Best issued was a 9mm SIG 226...it was an alternative issue with the .40 229 being the preferred choice.
Best personally owned pistol I carried on duty was a H&K P7...besides being a great duty gun, it was always fun when the range staff didn't know how to lock the slide back during annual inspections

I've had three issued duty pistols: Sig P220 (no rail), G37 and G17 gen 4.
My favorite was definitely the P220. I went through all of my instructor schools and quals with it. But, the G17 is so easy its boring. We used to cringe when we'd be on patrol and it would be a super hot, humid day and we would get out of our air conditioned cruiser. We could see the sweat on the slide of the P220 and knew if we didn't wipe it down quickly we'd have a rusted slide in short order.
The G17, we don't have that problem and it is nice to have a rail for a light (although my personal carry guns do not have a rail except for my G19.5).
So, P220 is my favorite so far. Love the feel and the way it shoots!
Can't decide, between the SIG P226 9mm or SIG P220 .45 ACP.
The P226 was 100% reliable, it was a workhorse. The P220 fit my hand better, I was able to eventually shoot it better than my 226 during my quarterly qualifications. Our department did have to change several different duty loads to get our 220s to be 100% reliable though.
My favorite off-duty gun - SIG P239 9mm, loved that gun, fit me perfectly and I shot it really good.

H&K P-7 M8. Loved the weapon, but holsters etcwere very difficult to get. The department traded out of them in 2000. The irony is the Dept wanted to buy 60 more new ones and HK wasn’t interested and wanted us to buy USP instead.

S&W model 19 2.5 in bbl. When I retired from the USSS the agency had just went with Sigs, so I promptly bought my first Sig (p220) and I have collected quite a number of Sigs since then.

Best issued gun is my current Gen 4 Glock 22, which isn't saying much. I'd like to give the nod to the worn out Gen 2 Glock 19 I was issued when I started, but it was a tired old gun. Other than that 19, I've had three 22s and none of them were/are anything special.
I did carry a personally-owned Springfield Professional for several years at my first agency and they was easily "the best."
