Found a 9mm P229 Elite 9mm at my LGS that comes with a .40 cal complete top end with a .357 sig barrel. It’s priced pretty high, but ideally it’s a 3 caliber pistol, and I have ammo for all of it. Any ideas if the frame will handle the pressure of all 3 calibers? Do the newer railed frames accept the old school .40/.357 mags?
I have 229 Elites in both 9mm and 40 S&W. Both guns are interchangeable with my 228 and non-rail early 229 40 magazines. I think the frames don't differ between 9mm, 40, or 357 SIG. You may, or in fact need, to convert the locking block when switching between 9mm and 40/357.
The elite frame is the same between all the calibers, so the frame will handle it.
The magazine well should be the 229-1 size, so all the 228/229 magazines will fit. Though the older ones that use the straight tube will be loose and rattle a bit.
