Shooting through pockets/ gear fabric and the risk of induced stoppages (short video)
Guy in our weekly defensive shooting group did it with a J-frame. Wore an old sport coat. Was a long time ago during the age of polyester suits. It was polyester.
He shot and his coat caught fire. One of us secured his gun. Several others helped beat out the fire. No time to get a fire extinguisher.
First, last and only time we ever tried this. Thank goodness.

On the other hand, in a pinch, setting oneself on fire can have a very intimidating effect on your opponent(s).

Yep, main reason why my S&W Model 38 (original Bodyguard) is still my "I'm not carrying a gun" gun. The versatility that this gun can achieve in being hidden/deployed/carried is just really outstanding. I really thought that a Glock 42 would replace it in my inventory for that role, but it didn't. (And I do like the Glock 42, like them a lot - my second favorite Glock after the 19.)
One should always have a S&W J frame (specially a centennial or bodyguard type) in their "kit'.
