Following the recommendations provided in this thread, I have ordered a 357Sig barrel for my P226-40-SSS pistol. Should arrive today. When funds allow I am going to order one extra barrel because they are starting to be less available and more expensive (the one I ordered is an OEM Factory New in factory packing) and cost me $199.00.

I have also ordered four - 50 round boxes of the Federal HST ammo in 357Sig and have on hand 500 rounds of Hornady Critical Defense I ordered while on sale thanks to forum member 1 Robert, from this thread.

Now to get out to the range and give this “new to me caliber” some range time. Thanks again to everyone for your posts and recommendations. Greatly appreciated.

I doubt we'll see a P365 in anything bigger than 9mm, I don't think the frame is built for it.

20 years ago everyone's compact pistol (the P239 era) came in multiple calibers. The P365 started the sub-compact or Micro size guns and they are all sized down but built specifically around 9mm.

357 Sig is an outstanding round but not popular enough to add to another handgun. 9mm ammo development made it the king of self defense handguns.

Ammo development wasn't limited to 9MM.

DEI, HR and bean-counting made it king.

This. They'd do it in .40 before they ever did it in .357. Mags, barrels and several other pieces would have to be redesigned. Would turn into a single stack .40 in that size likely. Not a lot of demand there.

I wonder how S&W does with their Shield M2 in .45

As others have here, I picked up a P239 in .357 Sig about 18 years ago and though my PD (I was retired, but still had to comply with their CCW restrictions) didn't permit carry of that caliber, I opted to get a .40 S&W barrel for it. It shot both those calibers very well, but I also picked up a 9mm barrel, recoil spring, and magazines. With the heavy stainless steel slide, this was by far the most accurate and pleasant caliber option I had with the single stack compact pistol. I don't carry this much, but I see no reason to sell this versatile, reliable, and still relevant system.

Pulicords - That is a beautiful pistol. I love the lines on the SAS models. Had a SAS in 9mm but sold it years ago. Still kick myself for that stupid decision.

Very nice example Pullicords. I just picked up a 9mm slide for my 40sw p239 that I bought many moons ago. Over the years I picked up a 357 barrel, a threaded factory 9mm barrel, holsters, several mags for 357/40 and 9mm, a few +1 baseplates from Top Gun along with few 8 round witness hole mags when they were on sale, and an SRT kit. I haven't shot it in a long time but looking forward to putting a mag of the Hornaday downrange. I will add it to the carry rotation if my experience is positive.

Interestingly, I just picked up a copy of the May 1998 American Rifleman with an article by Wiley Clapp on the 357 sig (hint, he was a fan). AI only had a link to his 2012 follow-up article:

The only thing that worries me is having to fire a 357 sig without earpro. But I suppose that would be the least of my worries.

I don't know if it will ever see a resurgence, used 40SW aren't as common as they were a few years ago and 357 sig conversion barrels are even rarer. A 2011 in 357 would be nice to see. But nostalgia is hard to predict. Big Grin

Definitely different from the 125 grain Gold Dot. Looks spicy Cool
