Other suggestion?

Question:

Choices:

I've got two Rhinos, and they're fun. The 6 inch .357 is my favorite.

I shot a Rhino in .357 once. It was a friend's gun, and we shot it alongside my Python, just powder puff .38 loads.

In terms of unusual and different, the Rhino won the contest. In terms of fun? I couldn't say that it was all that fun. Less felt recoil between the two, but I did not at all care for the trigger. It just wasn't my thing. Now that 627, however....

FWIW, I keep looking at the recent batch of 5" GP100s in .327 Federal.

The most fun I have had with a revolver involved either 5 rounds of 460 S&W or 45-70 12 times.

What is the primary purpose of your intended purchase?

Thanks for asking.

I have only a handful of fire arms. P229, P2000sk, P30L, Target Takedown 10/22, and an AR I built. I shot some IDPA with the P2000sk and thought about doing some shooting again. Thought a revolver might spur that on again and also give me something to do with my Dad/Friends. Not looking for a run-of-the-mill revolver. Not for self defense. Just something to enjoy.

Of the two you mention, I'd go with the S&W, but you are REALLY limiting yourself.

Others that I would consider:
Ruger Single Six .22/.22 Magnum
Ruger GP 100 4"
S&W L Frame 686 (or 686+)
S&W 625 .45 ACP
Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 Special / .44 Mag

I like the way you think.

I was able to get my .357 & 44 Magnum fix with a Desert Eagle. Later I was able to get one in 41 Magnum and couldn't do without the 50AE. They come in 6, 10, & 14 inch barrels. The 50AE set me back $800 and the barrels & mags came later (you will need an additional bolt if converting to .357 or 41 Magnum. The 357 bolt is everywhere. I did not think the 41 bolt was ever made until my new parts wouldn't feed 44s properly. Jackpot! Big Grin ). A lot can be said for recoil management by a good muzzle brake & four recoil springs. The words '50AE' and 'second shot placement' can be used in the same sentence.

If you are wanting more of a high powered round (for use on that evil propane tank sneaking up behind you) I'd suggest the aforementioned Ladies Home Companion in 45-70 or the Magnum Research BFR in 460 S&W. The LHC can also run on twelve rounds of 45 Colt or 410 shot shells. The 460 BFR drops 10 inches at 250 yards. Bowling pins will die before the gun is empty. Wink

For a current production range gun, I'd probably go with a S&W 686 or 686+, or a Ruger GP100, especially the Wiley Clapp version.

I really like the Smith 625 in 45acp. Easy/cheap to reload for and super accurate. I have the 4” JM and the 5” model of 1989.

My vote went to the S&W 627 8 shot. I foolishly sold mine, and wish I had it back. Il Cattivo, the 5” GP100 in .327 is a fine revolver. It has become one of my favorite handguns. Factory ammo is scarce and expensive however. If you’re set up to handload, you can shoot one quite a bit without a lot of cash outlay.

Between the two I would go with the Rhino since it is for fun.

For me a fun revolver is either one that hits really hard or really soft. I would either pick something in .22lr or something big bore. The most fun gun I have is probably my newest one, a .45 Colt SA Uberti 1873 Cattleman.

But as I said between the two I would go with the Rhino only because it is unique and a lot more rare to see in the wild and to me that adds to the fun.

I had a revolver bug a few years ago, but I held out and it went away. That said, I had pretty much strayed away from the S&Ws and was more set on the Ruger as there seemed to be more bang for the buck.

As Palehorse said, an old SAA clone like the Uberti might be the ticket for fun. I've been contemplating a Cimarron Frontier matched with a Model 1873 carbine, both in .44-40/WCF. Of course, you can get them in the more modern .357 if you don't wanna deal with the harder to find cartridges. If you happen to go that route, understand that all the different US sellers are importers of the Italians, mostly Uberti, some Pietta.

My PERFORMANCE CENTER® Model 627 V-Comp is a joy to shoot and tons of fun at the range. It's one of my guns that will not be sold. She's a keeper.

How can you beat 8 rounds of .357 mag in one gun?

My Dessert Beagle Weighs as much as a VW, and is still merely a range toy compared to the serious work done by the 627.

I would never buy a DAO full size revolver...….so that immediately knocks out the Chiappa, that is if I could get over the looks of it first.....I voted S+W.

I voted for the 627, but my heart belongs to the GP 100.
It is run of the mill excellent.

I have not shot the Chiappa. My personal opinion is that it is just a novelty and an expensive one at that.

I have shot the 627, but not the V-Comp, although I had one, a V-Comp Performance Center in .44mag. That was fun and a great gun to shoot.

I would recommend a revolver in 10mm. If you could find a S&W 610-2 or a Ruger Match Champion model 1775, 10mm. With the S&W you can also shoot .40S&W with clips, perhaps it is the same for the Ruger. I hope to pick up one of these.

Ruger GP100 Match Champion 10mm

I've had quite a few revolvers and I would say that would have to be my favorite. For a novelty, you could look for a Dan Wesson. The older revolvers are fun, They make a new .357mag 6" that is awesome. They have gone up in price, used to be about 1K.
