I like the performance center S&Ws, even with the stupid lock... NRA Life Member - "Fear God and Dreadnaught"

How about the Performance Center 686. If it’s looks you’re going for- Smith added the “ Python” vent rib to the 686. A little easier on the wallet also. Also unfluted cylinder and “gas pedal” cylinder release.

Performance Center...(bleah) Be damn sure if you go this route that you inspect the snot out of any PC-labeled S&W. The trigger reach of the Chiappa makes it a 'no bueno' for me and my stubs for fingers. Normally by default the winner would 'the other gun'. But having returned too many recent-build PC handguns to S&W (our own and those belonging to customers), I'd cast a wary eye to anything coming out of THAT so-called "custom" shop. Most have been revolvers, but they've even messed up M&Ps up as well. Their final QC before the guns ship out leaves a LOT to be desired.

S&W 686 plus. 5 inch barrel. Slab side barrel. Like the one above. Handles all 357 factory loads really well at 38oz. Get nice wood grips from Ahrends, available at Brownells.

The most fun I ever had with a wheelie was with a friend's 4" 686, and a baggie of another friends .357 "volcano" handloads (loaded with slower burning powder to ensure maximum fireball.) Of I were to buy a wheelie, it would probably be a 686, but probably the 3"er.

Check out the new line of ruger GP100s! They have a 4" model in 10mm. Also a 7 shot 327 and that 10 shot .22LR I would definitely get one of the above, and would have a hell of a time picking which one.

I have two .357 revolvers; a Smith Model 19, and a Ruger GP 100, and two .44 magnum revolvers. Fourty-Four is Fun in a way .357 isn't. I rarely shoot the .357s anymore, but at least one .44 goes with me to the range every time I go. I prefer a 4 or 5 inch barrel on the .44s which gives the "fun" nod to the 4" 629. But I find the 7.5 inch Ruger Redhawk more comfortable to shoot. Quality and trigger wise, they are comparable guns, win neither really having an advantage over the other. Of the two you have selected so far, I'd buy the Smith. .357 Mag guns are more useful, and easier to carry, but if you are buying a range gun and fun shooter, seriously consider going straight to the .44. Smith 629 Ruger Redhawk "I vowed to myself to fight against evil more completely and more wholeheartedly than I ever did before. . . . That’s the only way to pay back part of that vast debt, to live up to and try to fulfill that tremendous obligation." So after much research, it would appear the warranty from Chiappa is worth zip. 1 year? Takes months to have issues addressed. So, as I said, I don't own a revolver and wouldn't really know the finer points of inspection and proper function. ________________________ P229 Stainless Elite P320 X-Five Legion P320 X-Carry
