Even citing boredom as a reason is a too strong. There's always folks who are just curious, enough to take a flier on something different or new. I sell more .44MAGs with that in mind than for any other use or purpose. As for the caliber in question, we sell quite a few 5.7mm handguns, including the spendier FNs. The bigger problem I see is the available ammo supply and not just its current princely cost at retail. For the caliber to really work itself into the mainstream, it at the very least needs other ammo makers to jump onboard and not just have FN and partner Federal doing all of the meager supplying that they already do. Personally I like shooting the cartridge even if I don't have a real need or use for it. I like it better than the Kel-Tec PMR alternative for 22MAG, and I've not tried the new Walther in that caliber. But for pistol I'd rather have a centerfire cartridge over a rimfire anyways, given my track record for reliability with lesser rimfire pistol, even the so-called "better" ones. For the 5.7 pistols themselves, I don't care for the plasticky feel of the original generation Five-seveN but I do like how the S&W and Ruger feel, and the 57 also shoots very nicely to boot (I've not had a try with the S&W yet; don't think compliant cap mags are available yet). I've not seen a PSA Rock come in, but that's no surprise as their mag capacity isn't legal here. The new gen Five-seveN MRD is a bit improved in feel and materials, but it's still stupidly priced. Customers still be them, though. If the caliber supply were to become more competitive and far more readily available like the different handguns have been doing, THEN 5.7x28 has a real chance as no doubt the consumables cost will come down as well. As for the OP's original query: it'll all depend on how popular 5.7 becomes. Getting a 50rd box of the stuff back under $20/per would definitely go a long way in enticing the curious. And pushing gunmakers into dipping their toes into the market. After all, who really thought Glock would ever make a .22LR pistol? -MG

It’s always a possibility that they will make one because they said they were never going to make a 10mm right before they came out with 357Sig and we all see how that went.

Thank you Very little |
would make an excellent option for the P320 PSA is selling 5.7 Blems for $399, which makes more sense for a fun gun.. Link

Personally, I think SIG should make pistols for the .357SIG cartridge as it is a proven round! Why they don't make something that is named after them is beyond me! _____________________________ Bill R. North Alabama

Is AAC PSA’s ammo company? Heard PSA was going to jump in the mix but not sure their ammo company name. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. It might well have proven itself, but the 9 has done it, too. For over a century. The vast majority of the gun buying public is not going to pick a round that is snappier, has less capacity and is more expensive. Q

While I mostly agree with you (as I normally do), I still find it pathetic that SIG has turned its back on a cartridge that they helped develop, and which has a proven track record! My all-around favorite SIG has long been the P229 in .357, with a .40 barrel for backup. I sold it when the writing was on the wall with .357SIG and went with a 1911A1 in .45ACP and a .357mag revolver for when I want something larger than 9mm. ETA: Sorry for the derailment! Now back to the 5.7x28 discussion... _____________________________ Bill R. North Alabama

Yes, AAC is PSA. They have two loadings currently in 40gr, one of them is a VMAX for sixty cents a round, which is less than I paid for Federal American Eagle the last time I bought 5.7 just as the panic was ramping up. ______________________________________________ Carthago delenda est

If we're going to get wacky with numbers, why not 7.5 FK Brno? That will at least leave a mark out of a pistol.

Now THAT'S fast service. Ask and ye shall receive. I probably should've known about the 5.7 Gold Dots since CCI sent some info on some of their new 2023 offerings a while ago, but alas it was one of those hundreds of promotional emails that I get and sent instead straight to the trash can. But it's nice to know that Fiocchi has stepped into the ring along with PSA. -MG

Yeah, when I went looking last week, I found a new announcement made a week prior from Fiocchi that they're releasing a bulk pack of the range ammo soon. I'm not sure when AAC's offerings hit the PSA site for sale, but it was definitely recently. I haven't looked at the Gold Dots, but I do plan to pick some up. While the ammo situation in this caliber has never been plentiful and cheap, it at least has some new players in the game. Hopefully more start to get involved. ______________________________________________ Carthago delenda est

I think the market is getting over-run with newer and more inexpensive 5.7 pistols. I can't see why Sig would enter the market but I have been wrong before.

My other Sig is a Steyr. |
Well, They did make a few pistols in 9mm Steyr.
