I picked up this 226 factory Ni yesterday for crazy low money. it has been shot but is in fantastic condition. its 1991 I think and does have the cut in the rail, but its not a mud rail cut. i got a Sig box but its wrong, i think? (flattish gray plastic) no target or manual, sadly. I added the serial number to the list pinned at the top.
I found a P226 for crazy cheap and know the feeling well.
This one looks like a keeper.

Looks to be correct. And by the serial number, it should be. I have its younger sibling (six off from yours) and was verified by Sig to be an original nickel finish.
12131..Sig is fickle..ive called bout pistols made in 07-08 and they cant give me much info, then I call on a lark just to ask and they verify...no additional info, just that it was indeed factory Ni...I don't know how they keep anything straight, but in short, it was 'verified' by phone. I take more stock in Fxcam's comment since his is only 6 digits off and its only 60 or 70? off from one on the pinned master list
as for the mag, the pics were taken right when I got it home. the seller had an ill fitting 228 floorplate on the mag and I didnt notice till I was able to examine it a lil closer. its already been rectified with an extra, proper 226 base plate.
The way i always understood sigs data base system is they have a new and old data base. The old system is from 2005 and back and not all CS reps know of the older system or how to access it. This was my understanding from 4-5 years ago. It took me several phone calls over several months time to verify the year of build on an AL ni p229 that i was trying to determine if it was a GOTM build or not.
I finally got in touch with an old timer CS rep which explained it to me and was finally able to verify the year of build for me.

Mustang, that makes a lot of sense now. Its frustrating trying to find info from them. some will help and dig a lil bit and some just act like they don't care, but perhaps it is, that some just don't know bout or how to access the older data?
What was the first year of factory nickel 226's? I found a Tysons marked example today with mud-rails. Looked the same as the example I own with a proper factory marked box with it.
